Join a Small Dog-Sledding Operation in the Heart of the Yukon Wilderness
October 2026 to April 2027
Hello adventurers, travellers and dog lovers!
I operate a small dog-sledding business with 35 dogs in a beautiful wilderness setting approximately 45 minutes from Whitehorse, Yukon. We specialize in multi-day expeditions ranging from 3 to 15 days.
I am looking for a reliable, mature and committed person to join us for the 2026–2027 winter season. This opportunity is for someone who genuinely wants to become part of the operation—not simply spend a winter in the Yukon or enjoy an extended vacation.
This is a unique hands-on learning opportunity that includes:
Living off-grid in the Yukon wilderness
Getting to know and care for all 35 dogs
Helping with training, feeding and monitoring the dogs
Cleaning and maintaining the dog yard
Learning to work safely and efficiently in cold conditions
Assisting with clients, tours and multi-day expeditions
Developing the skills required to co-guide dog-sledding trips
Participating in the daily activities of a small dog-sledding operation
Living and working with sled dogs is a way of life. Caring for them and spending time with them offers a genuine connection with nature every day.

Dog sledding is a way of life. Developing complicity with dogs on the trail and sharing their enthusiasm is a life changing experience. Dog sledding has deep roots in the Yukon history. Travelling with dog teams in the wilderness is also travelling back in time and experiencing a simple way of life.

I am currently looking for a reliable, mature and resourceful helper to give me a hand for the daily dog care (feeding, watering and cleaning), dog yard work and some small construction projects
The desired set of skills is: enjoying being outside, working with his/her hand, being in a good physical shape and enjoying the company of dogs.
Experience with sled dogs and construction background are an asset. Having a car is ideal or minimally a driver licence
Taking care of sled dogs, Training dogs, helping with construction, helping with day to day activities
The right person should:
Enjoy working outdoors in winter conditions
Be comfortable working with their hands
Be physically fit and active
Genuinely enjoy spending time with dogs
Be dependable, responsible and willing to learn
Be prepared to commit for the full winter season
Previous experience with sled dogs and access to a vehicle would be ideal. At minimum, a valid driver’s licence would be a strong asset.
Work arrangement and accommodation
The regular work schedule is approximately five hours per day. Hours may vary and occasionally increase during busy periods, depending on the needs and activities of the operation.
Compensation is $450 per month, and accommodation is provided. The helper is responsible for purchasing and preparing their own food. -

Accommodation consists of a 16-foot camper equipped with:
A wood stove and firewood
Basic cooking facilities
A 12-volt battery system
