Description
Roohi
Slow Living in a 100-Year-Old Himachali Home
Nestled in the forests above Naggar, Himachal Pradesh, Roohi is a 100-year-old traditional Himachali home built in the old kathkuni style of wood and stone. What began as a personal journey slowly became both a home and a space shared with travelers seeking quiet, simplicity, and connection with nature.
Life here is slow and seasonal.
Most days revolve around simple routines like cooking together, tending to the house, collecting wood, caring for the garden, walking forest trails, sitting in silence, sharing stories around tea, and watching the mountains change through the day.
This is not a luxury homestay or a fast-paced hostel. Roohi attracts people who enjoy:
- simple mountain living
- forests and long walks
- creativity and quiet
- meaningful conversations
- slowing down from busy city life
- living close to nature
The house is surrounded by deodar forests, apple orchards, and mountain views. The road ends before the home, and there is a short walk through the forest to reach the house, the same part of what keeps the space peaceful and offbeat.
Looking for:
People who are kind, grounded, respectful, and comfortable with simple living.
Help may include:
- gardening
- cooking and cleaning
- helping with guests
- small creative projects
- photography/social media
- maintenance around the old house
- simply sharing skills and energy
No special experience is needed, just openness, care for the space, and a willingness to be part of the rhythm of mountain life.
A few things to know:
- Mountain life can be physically demanding at times.
- Internet exists, but nature tends to win.
- Winters are quiet and cold in this offbeat mountain.
- We value calmness, honesty, and mutual respect.
- This is a home first, and a shared space second.
Roohi is still evolving organically, and maybe that’s the beauty of it.
People usually come here for a few days and end up staying longer.
I came to the mountains years ago after life took an unexpected turn, and somewhere along years of walking through forests and silence, Roohi slowly came into being.

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
You'll learn the ways of the old Himachali traditions, be with nature, learn about the ancient technique of Kathkunis and live a life that's far more satisfying than being in the city. If you're interested you could also join us on our routine of collecting wood from the jungle, working around our garden , and basic maintenance, doing decors with macrame, board games, and card games and less screen time, exploring the neighboring villages, learn, sing and shout and dance like no one's watching,

Aide
We are looking for a friend who can understand this life and the changes that come along with it.
It will be a proper mountain life here, where you'll have to walk down to town and climb back up with a month's grocery on your back. You should be accustomed to cooking, cleaning, and basic maintenance of this old wooden home. Obviously, you wouldn't be doing it all by yourself. We want someone who'd feel at home here and take care of Roohi just like she's yours. It's a friend we need with whom we can share our days, have conversations with and be a part of our home.
