I cannot recommend this workaway enough: Working on Alma and Mathias' glamping was one of the highlights of my summer. They welcomed us with open arms, we learned so much about Danish culture, explored cool spots on the island, and we soon formed a great friendship with our hosts. The work itself, I didn't mind - we essentially did some light
… read more cleaning and prepared the tents for incoming guests. I had another Workawayer there with me and we split the tasks pretty well. We started working around 9am 5 days a week and finished before 1/2pm usually.
Eating our meals with Alma and Mathias was one of the highlights for me, plus Alma is a GREAT cook and shared some of her Kenyan cuisine with us as well. Sometimes on our days off, Mathias' mom would bring us a spare card for the other Workawayer and I to explore the island on - otherwise Mathias provided us bikes to ride around. They really thought of everything - even the tent we stayed in was well-equipped and cozy. I had such a good time, I honestly am considering coming back next summer!

Having Nora as a volunteer was absolutely fantastic. She was smart, efficient, hard-working and all round had a smile on no matter the weather or type of tasks handed to her😊 Her energy was light and positive and it was absolutely lovely having her around for the summer.

I spent arround two month on Bornholm with Alma and Mathias. During the time where the camp was open we worked in the glamping tents. Everyday we got clear instructions about our tasks and were free in which order we fullfill them.
After work and on our days off we enjoyed the time in the nature arround the camp, in the beautiful towns all over

Staying with Alma and Mathias was a dream! This being my first workaway experience, I didn't quite know what to expect but I was immediately welcomed and made to feel like family. The accommodation was wonderful and as described. I was given adequate materials to make my stay in the tent very comfortable even in difficult weather (which was not
… read more often) The daily tasks were varied and interesting. From learning how to turn over a tent accommodation in a very short time, transporting material using an AV, and even learning to drive a manual car, I picked up essential skills that will be of future benefit.
The apogee of this experience was the deep relationships formed by living with Alma, Mathias, and their family. They have a natural gift of welcoming people into their lives and making them feel at home. From sailing at sunset in the Baltic Sea to being a part of their wedding, we shared so many precious moments that’ll treasure forever. This experience gave me the space to retreat after what had been a stressful and emotionally taxing year in school. This truly felt like a home away from home.
The island of Bornholm abounds in natural beauty and lacks no opportunity for quiet-seekers to take in the magic of the island. Ancient ruins, castles, harbors, miles of forest, and a tiny 100-person island a short distance away are some of the things Bornholm affords. I’d often go on spontaneous one-day trips, with bikes provided by Alma and Mathias (got my quads looking like the Hulk in the end haha). And in addition to the beautiful human relationships I found during this experience, the non-human relationships formed with the trees, the horses, the chickens, and even the slugs, were an absolute blessing.

the time in Bornholm was nothing but awesome! I am very thankful for my time there. on the one hand there was the work which could be hard from time to time but definitely is a lot of fun at the same time as well. no day was as the one before: we drove the quad, cleaned the tents, moved the furniture, cleaned the grills,... so it was very varied.
… read more working outside, just in the nature makes you happy and gives you a good feeling at the end of the day ⛺️ Mathias managed perfectly to create the best possible mix between work and freetime, we went with the boat, for the hot tub, met his friends, went to the city, ... it was so cool!! I learned so much and am very thankful for my stay. Mathias, Alma and his friends & family are super chill and just nice so it was a pleasure to meet them. I also made new friends who I'll hopefully see again one day. if you want a real authentic workaway experience, I would definitely recommend to go to Mathias Place in Bornholm !

… read more didn't have to do so much and so we had a lot of free time to discover Bornholm Island. Also we could take the car when Mathias and Alma didn't need it. Bornholm is such a cool place to chill and take time for yourself : you have a lot of nature (i mean you only have nature haha).

My time here was great. Mathias, Alma and the rest of their family were really nice and made me feel welcome from the very first moment of my stay! The tasks were as described in the "help" section and it was nice to carry them out with another workawayer that I can now call my friend.
