Description
This is a project to promote low impact living based on a large organic farm, mainly olive groves, some almond and fruit trees,large vegetable plots,and several self built houses using eco building methods.situated in a valley with no road access but only 5 mins walk from the nearest village and 30 mins from a lively alternative town.(Orgiva)
We are completely off grid- solar power, compost toilets etc.
We have up to 10 volunteers at any one time helping with the running of the farm, self sufficiency (we produce all the fruit and veg we consume),looking after the animals (chickens, donkeys),eco building projects,reed-bed systems,olive harvest etc. etc.
Kate is also a member of a small organic olive oil co-op where we take the olives and president of our recently formed association which promotes eco lifestyles via workshops, courses and other activities.
We also organize workshops and courses related to low-impact living which are held in our 7m diametre yurt.
We are open to DEDICATED LONGTERM VOLUNTEERS AND RESPONSIBLE PEOPLE TO JOIN THE PROJECT..(preferably with some experience- veg gardens, animals, watering, strimming and chainsaw,,building, solar electrics, carpentry etc etc.....).

Spanish and english is mainly spoken here. You could learn about very low impact living, eco building Animal care (chickens, donkeys) olive farming and/or organic veg cultivation, We are close to a lively market town with a large range of cultural activities.
Aide
Volunteers work 5 hrs per day, 5 days per week, weekends off, in exchange for full bed and board (some meals are self catering) and sharing this unique piece of nature and way of life. Work is mainly physical and not recommended for people with back problems or other health issues.

Hébergement
In 5 individual small stone and strawbale houses,in the depths of nature, most with seperate cooking facilities, compost toilets, solar power and shared solar hot water showering facilities. Suitable for couples, friends or individuals.
Volunteers are expected to keep the house they stay in clean and leave it as they found it when their stay finishes.

We give priority to volunteers arriving by the most sustainable means of transport (bike, bus, train....)
There are bus connections to Granada and Motril via Orgiva.
The Alpujarras is a beautiful area below Sierra Nevada national park.
We ask people not to smoke in the houses or while working.
We cannot accept volunteers with pets or drug or alcohol habits.
If you have any mental or physical health issues please let us know so we can assess if this is the right place for you.
(including allegies, special dietry requiements etc.)
We give priority to long-stay volunteers and normally the minimum stay is 4 weeks,
Work here is mainly physical - you will need a certain degree of stamina if not physical strength.
There are lots of other organic farms in the area which take volunteers and the area is perfect for hiking.

I stayed on the farm two weeks and had a very nice experience.
Place is like a green oaza hidden between mountains and hills,
there are beautiful wooden-stone cottages between many plants and trees,
many animals also like the place.
I recommend it for every nature loving person.

Kate's property is beautiful. From anywhere your standing you get a view of the surrounding mountains. After I learned that many of the olive trees are hundreds of years old and that the terraces and water systems were designed by the Arabs when they controlled the area, the job of watering the olive trees took on a marvelous quality.
