    Description

Hi! We are a family of five—Matej, Greta, Izabel, Nikolaj, and our beloved cat, Mija 😊.

We are an open-minded, warm, and welcoming family that deeply appreciates nature, its beauty, and the peaceful simplicity it offers. Our days are shaped by the rhythm of the land, and we find joy in living in harmony with our surroundings. We speak Slovenian, English, Italian, and Serbo-Croatian, so communication is never a barrier—we love exchanging stories, experiences, and cultures with those who visit.

In December 2022, we moved into our newly renovated home in Dolenja Trebuša, a serene countryside retreat surrounded by rolling hills, crystal-clear rivers, and untouched streams. Here, nature is still pure—you can hold water in the palm of your hand and quench your thirst straight from the springs.

We have 3 hectares of land, including 1 hectare of meadows and the rest covered by forest, offering us both open space and natural shade. Our property is also blessed with two drinking water wells and two small streams, which naturally mark the boundary between our land and our neighbor’s. The house is set back 40 meters from the main local road, nestled against the hill, with the nearest neighbor 200 meters away—giving us all plenty of freedom, privacy, and tranquility.

Our lifestyle is rooted in sustainability and self-sufficiency. We mostly eat vegetarian and vegan food, though the children occasionally enjoy other options as well. We strive to grow and process as much of our own food as possible, which is why we created terraces to cultivate fresh produce throughout the seasons.

If you love nature, a simple yet fulfilling lifestyle, and meaningful connections, we would love to welcome you into our world!

The place where we live is steeped in ancient stories, whispering through the hills, rivers, and forests that surround us. Not far from here, many believe that the melody of the world’s oldest known flute—crafted by a Neanderthal from an animal bone and discovered in one of our caves—was heard for the first time, echoing through time to remind us of our deep-rooted connection to music, nature, and human creativity.

The surrounding countryside carries the weight of history, shaped by the footsteps of foreign conquerors, the resilience of local people, and the echoes of battles that once raged through these now peaceful valleys. Yet, alongside this past, life here has always been rich with traditions, customs, and a deep sense of community. Our culture is woven together through centuries-old rituals, vibrant folk dances, heartfelt singing, and the flavors of exceptional local cuisine—each element telling its own tale of the land and its people.

We cherish meaningful exchanges and look forward to sharing stories, perspectives, and deep conversations with you. Your thoughts and experiences will enrich our world, just as we hope ours will inspire you.

Since we have already built our home, help would be useful with exterior help, landscaping and some small construction.

We are working on creating a self-sustaining and thriving garden space, and we would love your help with:
    - Establishing terraced gardens for growing vegetables, berries, and herbs, shaping the land into a fertile and productive
    space.
    - Watering the terraces to ensure that plants receive the care they need, especially during dry periods.
    - Clearing the forest and preparing humus, which includes shredding branches and enriching the soil to support healthy plant
    growth.
    - Gathering and processing wild herbs, which we use for teas, natural remedies, and culinary purposes.

Our land is surrounded by beautiful nature, and we strive to keep it well-maintained and inviting. We need assistance with:
    - Raking leaves and general clean-up to keep the space tidy and in harmony with nature.
    - Landscaping and outdoor maintenance to enhance the beauty and functionality of our surroundings.
    - Firewood preparation for winter—chopping, stacking, and organizing firewood to ensure a warm and cozy home during the
    colder months.

We believe in the power of meaningful interactions, and we are looking for someone who enjoys spending time with children. Your help would include:
    - Engaging in creative and outdoor activities with our children, making their days fun and enriching.
    - Introducing them to the English language through play, storytelling, and daily conversations, helping them learn in a natural
    and enjoyable way.

We follow traditional methods of food preservation to make the most of our harvest and prepare for the colder months. We need help with:
    - Harvesting and processing fruits and vegetables for storage.
    - Making homemade preserves, jams, and fermented foods.
    - Drying herbs and storing food for winter.
    - Harvesting lavender and producing hydrosol and essential oil through traditional distillation methods.
    - Creating natural cosmetics from homegrown and foraged ingredients, such as natural soaps, body butter, candles, salves,
    and more.

We value a warm and welcoming home, and help with daily tasks is always appreciated:
    - Cooking meals—we primarily follow a plant-based diet but are open to different types of cuisine.
    - Keeping the house clean and organized to maintain a cozy and inviting space for everyone.

We can host a maximum of 2 adults on our property.

We offer accommodation in a trailer with two beds and direct access to a traditional hayrack, where guests can use the outdoor summer kitchen. Additionally, our entire house, including the bathroom and indoor kitchen, is available for shared use.
For those who prefer a different setup, you are also welcome to camp with us or come with a motorhome. As we are in a rural area, it is desirable that you have your own transport. The nearest grocery store is 6 km away, the closest petrol station is 13 km away, and larger shopping centers can be found 19 km away in Tolmin.
To help you explore the surroundings, we offer two bicycles for rent. You can use them to visit nearby natural attractions or take a scenic ride to the train station (about 1 hour). From there, you can continue your journey by train towards Bled, which takes approximately 45 minutes.

For dining options, there are two inns in the village—one is open all the time, while the other operates only on weekends.
