This is a dual centred Workaway stay. You would live in Ballina town by the river Moy where you'll have your own garden apartment that has a double bed, a kitchen, shower room and own entrance. There’s a TV, DVD player and WiFi. My mother lives separately in her house on the same plot, and you’ll be helping her with her polytunnel and general gardening as well as some painting and cleaning. She is cocooning because of Covid, but I’d be working with you. Also, I’d like help at my house which is 20km out of town in the country set on two acres right by the sea. My house is by the "Castle Break", an offshore surf break for those interested in surfing, and I’m near Kilcummin, Lacken and Killala in North Mayo on the Wild Atlantic Way. Very scenic and great for walks and fishing. You can walk to the beach for a swim in just 10 minutes. I would welcome some help with weeding, mowing, digging, strimming, dry stone walling, some housework, cleaning, de cluttering, and painting, all the usual Workaway tasks!
Because of the back and forth element, there would be a petrol allowance if you have your own car, and when I’m off work I would drive you to see the sites in the area and help you find your way around.
Mum and I are very flexible as to how you get through the task lists - 5 hours help per day, with two days off a week. I’m a chef and enjoy cooking with, and for my visitors. This would be when you are out at my house, and when at your apartment, you would need to cook for yourselves, and again, there would be money for your food bill within reason. I have 1 outdoor cat and one indoor dog who love to be brushed and are very friendly.
Mum and I would prefer experienced helpers with self motivation and some gardening, DIY, cleaning and painting skills. A reasonable grasp of English saves any miscommunication, but sometimes Google Translate, pointing and waving will get us through! Please have travel insurance that covers any medical needs you may have if you are non EU and be Visa compliant. You need to be fully Covid vaccinated too please.

Mayo is gorgeous! We are on The Wild Atlantic Way close to deserted beaches, historic Abbeys, an amazing sea stack at Downpatrick Head, great surfing and golf, beautiful walks, and world famous fishing. This is rural Ireland at its best.
We are looking forward to learning about your culture, helping you with learning English and exchanging recipes. The apartment at mums will afford the visitor their own comfortable space. Covid social distancing is necessary indoors and there are still restrictions here in Ireland. I’d be working alongside you outside. Obviously whilst helping at my house, I would be cooking with or for the helper and sharing recipes and language skills if they would like to improve their English. I was born in Hong Kong and my mother spent 16 years there and we have had great success with helpers from the East. It will be interesting to get other recipes and cultural experiences to share. We are interested and interesting people.
In terms of the time doing tasks at mums or mine, it will be weather dependent. And it will be clearly laid out with lots of time off during which I would hope to bring the visitor to see sites in the area.

We are on The Wild Atlantic Way which is a tourist route that runs down the West Coast of Ireland. If you like to hill walk, surf or play golf, it’s all on our doorstep.
