Description
My house by the sea has a gorgeous view!
Help with unpacking, tidying, figuring out technology, upcycling (painting), light cleaning.
My mother lives separately in her house in Ballina, and you’ll be helping her with a bit of weeding. She loves to play “Scrabble” which is a good way of learning English. My house is by the "Castle Break", an offshore surf break for those interested in surfing, and I’m near Kilcummin, Lacken and Killala in North Mayo on the Wild Atlantic Way. Very scenic and great for walks. You can walk to the beach for a swim in just 10 minutes.
Because of the back and forth element, there would be a petrol allowance if you have your own car, and when I’m off work I would drive you to see the sites in the area and help you find your way around.
Mum and I are very flexible as to how you get through any tasks - 5 hours help per day for 5 days, with two days off a week. You choose when. I’m a chef and enjoy cooking with, and for, my visitors when I’m there. Can show you how to make soda bread if you are interested.
Great to have experienced helpers with self motivation and some gardening (tell the difference between a weed and a flower) knowledge, but I can teach you, help me with light house tasks and moving firewood.
A reasonable grasp of English saves any miscommunication, but sometimes Google Translate, pointing and waving will get us through! Please have travel insurance that covers any medical needs you may have if you are non EU and be Visa compliant.

Mayo is gorgeous! We are on The Wild Atlantic Way close to deserted beaches, historic Abbeys, an amazing sea stack at Downpatrick Head, great surfing and golf, beautiful walks, and world famous fishing. This is rural Ireland at its best.
We are looking forward to learning about your culture, helping you with learning English and exchanging recipes. Obviously whilst helping at my house, I would be cooking with or for the helper and sharing recipes and language skills if they would like to improve their English. I was born in Hong Kong and my mother spent 16 years there and we have had great success with helpers from the East. It will be interesting to get other recipes and cultural experiences to share. We are interested and interesting people.
In terms of the time doing tasks at mums or mine, it will be weather dependent. And it will be clearly laid out with lots of time off during which I would hope to bring the visitor to see sites in the area.
If you’re interested in music, then we can go to the pub to a Trad Session. You can try a Guinness!

We are on The Wild Atlantic Way which is a tourist route that runs down the West Coast of Ireland. If you like to hill walk, swim, surf or play golf, it’s all on our doorstep. Bessie’s Bar is within walking distance.
