    Description

Hi! We're Christoph and Marianne (mid-40's,) We're open-minded, curious , creative people who like to try new things and meet new people, living on a small hobby farm in northern Germany. We've got a huge dog, Denali, a few sheep, a small flock of chickens, and a few other small animals. We live in a very sweet village in Lower Saxony where it's relatively easy to bike to the next grocery store or explore the Suedheide Nature Preserve around us.

We're a bilingual family, speaking English and German at home, with U.S. and German roots. Our house and property are right on a small river, perfect for paddling and swimming. People who are looking to help out a little on our property or in the house, who love nature, who are creative and independent will love staying with us. We've got plenty of space to share, so if you've got your own projects to try out here, we're open to that too!

You'd get to stay either in our guest room (with a private bathroom,) or in a newly-built tiny house, more of a glamping experience, but with electricity and heat- directly on the sweetest river!

    Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre

We're a dual-national family, speaking fluent German and English. You'd live a very bi-cultural life with us, filled with U.S. customs as well as German ones! We love to cook (all cuisine) and have a big kitchen for sharing, so sharing food and meals together (at least occasionally, as you'd prefer) is a big deal for us.
For people who love nature, you'd love it here- directly in a nature preserve with many species of birds and mammals around. If you like paddling or swimming, our river is a treat!

We both work full time, so we're looking for someone (or a few people) to lend a hand in taking our dog for a daily walk, helping with small-farm chores, and simply being around so that we can occasionally go away for a weekend. In the evenings and on weekends, we're happy to be social, go on hikes, watch movies together, etc.We also love music and play a few instruments, though not well... doesn't stop us. ;-)

We're hoping to set up a big garden for the summer of 2026, so anyone who would be interested in designing and implementing this would be very welcome to join us.

  • Hébergement

    Hébergement

We've got options for work-away-ers, both sleep 1-2 comfortably.
You could take over our newly built tiny house during your stay. This is a small cabin, directly on the Örtze River. It has electricity and heat, but no running water. For that, you'll have a canister to fill up in the house and bring it to the sink in the tiny house. You'll have your own toilet, attached to the tiny house. For showers, you'd come into our house. You'd have a small kitchenette, bed (80x200, or 160x200, depending if you pull it out), table with 1 chairs and a comfortable chair. It overlooks the river and is very charming.
    OR
We have a guest room in our basement with it's own patio and full bathroom. It's also got a small kitchenette for preparing light meals, coffee, or tea. It contains a 160X 200 bed (queen), small table, kitchenette, bathroom, reading chair, dresser, and TV with streaming services.

For food, we've you'll have your own fridge to use in the lower level of our house and can make your own simple meals, if that is what you prefer. However, we have a large home-kitchen and are happy to share it with you. We cook a lot and love to share cooking and meals with friends, family, and even strangers! You'd be weloome to share our home kitchen with us, at least for evening meals.

We do both work full-time, so we need people here who are independent and trustworthy, and who don't mind some solitude. Public transportation to and from our home is possible, but not always convenient. (There are buses, but not often.) We have bikes that we can lend and it's not far to many small towns. Having your own car would be convenient, but not necessary.
We are respectful of the land we live in and the people we live near. That means that there are quiet hours from 10pm-7am, and we do not allow any smoking inside our buildings. Illegal activity is not allowed.

It would be easy to work from our house.... The chores we ask help with are early in the morning and in the evenings. At the moment, there is no internet in the tiny house cabin, but the guest room has wifi access.

We can offer a parking space in our driveway and electricity for a small motorhome or camper. We do not have water or sewage hook ups.

Our property has a fence around it, but only on three sides. . . There is no fence to the river, so dogs that swim need to be closely monitored. Animals need to be able to live respectfully with our own dog, chickens, bunnies, and sheep. We are a pet-friendly household, though, and welcome well-behaved animals.
