Hello Workawayers! I am Spanish and resident in Tanzania.

I am the coordinator and founder of a free space in Arusha town that collects different ideas that aim to cover shortcomings that I saw throughout my volunteering and living in Tanzania.

After staying in a humble neighborhood of Arusha, I realized that the young people I was with did not read books because no one made them available to them, that they did not learn languages because they could not afford to pay for classes, but that they had a great interest in learning; that it was difficult for them to invent stories, they lacked creativity because no one had made them develop it; that they did not have a space in which to relax, play, enjoy or meet, other than the streets of the place in which they lived; who were interested in debates on different topics, in which they shared their concerns and discovered that it was not just only "happening to them"; They were passionate about interacting with foreigners, practicing their language and asking them a thousand questions while at the same time they liked to explain to them about the customs and way of life in Tanzania. That there were not enough spaces for dance; that through workshops they could be taught small but very useful things, that they did not have access to computers except by paying etc...

From there emerged our project (registered under an NGO), a free space for meeting, learning, opportunity, sharing, making new friends, finding other young people with the same or different interests, who in turn awaken or infect each other with interest in different things, a place where they feel welcomed, where they can express themselves, where they are listened to... and where each one can share the best of themselves to help others while receiving from others.

Volunteering with us you will be full time interacting with our youth, that is going to be your main objective.
This means that you will also learn a lot from them and that you will be totally immerse in Tanzanian life.

You can join our daily evening dance class as well as our other activities such as Swahili lessons, Spanish sessions... You will have free wifi in our facilites.

We will be glad to show you the most interesting places in the city and its surroundings. We will make for you an orientation tour in Arusha, personalized to your individual needs. We will help you to buy a local sim card, and we will guide you on how to use public transport and we will recommend you local restaurants. We will also show you shops and markets where you can buy food or other needs, as well as we will guide you on the prices.
We will be glad to assist you in any matter or with other services you need.

Welcome to our centre, where young people, through free activities such as language classes, workshops, dance, performances, computers, library, board games…, occupy the time efficiently, exchange skills, grow thanks to mutual help and pursue better job opportunities.

Come and help us organizing activities and workshops, teaching, assisting with office tasks, managing social media, or any other idea you would like to propose.

What we need from you is that you share with us your illusion, your abilities, your ideas and your enthusiasm! in an environment full of music, dance and good vibes.

In detail:
• Teaching English, Spanish or other languages.
• Helping to stablish an organized and structured program of English and Spanish sessions and prepare material for these classes, looking for audios, templates, games… etc.
• Assisting and participating in English and Spanish conversation sessions
• Motivating our youth to be active and to join our activities, making them company and paying attention to them, detecting their anxieties, needs and concerns, helping them to socialize and interact (playing board games, dancing together, reading…).
• Updating and making maintenance of our laptops.
• Teaching computer skills and giving computer assistance to our members in case they need it.
• Preparing videos for social media with the material we already have, as well as taking new photos and videos.
• Helping with social media daily communications.
• Looking for information and teaching our team how to use properly Instagram and other social media (and the technics to do it efficiently).
• Helping to organize a marketing plan and to follow it.
• Helping with fundraising activities and programs.
• Helping to improve and complete the file data base of our members.
• Helping to reorganize our library.
• Helping to start programmed workshops and to organize new ones to teach people to get skills.
• Helping with craft workshops such as making bracelets, carpentry… not only to teach people to get skills but also to have material to sell or to carry other countries to be sold and get founds for the project.
• Creating new table games.
• We have material to decorate (like empty tins, glass bottles…) we can create something nice with it, to sell or to decorate the centre… at the same time we teach about recycling.
• Helping with our Movie and Documentary program, which consist of choosing a documentary or movie, playing it, supporting with the translation and then discussing it.
• Joining us in our visits to art centres or academies. To train with them. This makes connections and create unity in the community of artists and grow the knowledge of all of them. Also inviting these other groups to our centre to do our own workshops in our facilities.
• Helping to organize open day events (with workshops and performances).
• Any other idea, activity or workshop that the volunteers can suggest or any other skills they want to share with us we can also studied it and carry it out if it’s possible.

At your arrival to our centre, you will be all the time accompanied and guided for our team. We will do a presentation meeting with all the team, we will solve all your doubts and we will organize and program together the tasks you will develop.

Hébergement
Room in the home of our founder. Located just a few meters from our Social & Cultural Centre. It is a large shared room with two single beds. There is a private toilet and shower for this room. The house has a dining room, kitchen and outdoor area. The room should be shared if there is other volunteer.

Our Centre is located in the city, very close to the main bus station, local shops, restaurants and to large supermarket. From our place is very easy to access any point. It is very accessible public and private transportation (small buses, tuc tucs moto taxis ,taxis)
