Description
We are a small family of three - Grace, Owen and Oisín (pronounced Ush-een), living on a family farm in Northeast Tasmania. We are working to transition the 117-hectare property to a regenerative, small-scale dairy. The farm is home to 20 hectares of remnant temperate rainforest, lots of wildlife, and our growing herd of cows. We keep chickens and have a very friendly farm dog, called Luan, and a slightly more cautious puppy called Jack. There are wallabies, wombats, bandicoots, platypus, and all kinds of wildlife on the farm. It's a quiet, rural setting that is paradise for people who love the outdoors. A🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ welcoming home.

Owen grew up here, Grace moved from Ireland in 2015, and Oisín came into our lives in 2021. He keeps us both busy, as does the farm, and my PhD which I am doing in local economies. We both travelled a lot before settling on the farm, and love meeting and hosting people from all over the world. We have hosted a small number of workaways and volunteers and travellers in other places where we have lived. Owen has a background in Environmental Science, speaks German and some Arabic, and is passionate about this land. Grace is in her final year of a PhD on local community economics and is active in the community. Owen's mum lives nearby and is a big part of our life. She is an artist and is active in the local community. We all love music, and Owen plays piano. We think this is a relaxing, comfortable and rich place to learn about the environment, land management and the local context.
We have a dream to create community and learning spaces on this farm, and these projects are part of that.

Updated for MAY/JUNE availability: We are working on some key projects - 1. putting in a new market garden space, 2. finishing renovations on our barn community space and 3. fencing off some parts of the farm to revegetate native bushland. We are really keen to host anyone with the following skills: fencing or the ability to learn quickly; building sheds or installing a small polytunnel; and basic DIY/building skills to finish renovations on our barn community space (mainly cutting and putting up timber cladding). Anyone with experience in establishing growing spaces or with building skills is very welcome. Our son is very involved in our gardening and farm projects, so you would need to be comfortable with a very chatty 4-year-old joining in at times :-).
What we can offer: A self-contained two-bedroom house with power, water, and all amenities (except internet, which you will need to stream from your own device if you have one). One queen room, and one single room available so can work for 2-3 people. Pantry staples will be provided.
We think this placement really suits couples, friends, or independent travellers. ***There is no public transport to and from the farm, so your own transport is preferable. ***

Hébergement
We have a two-bedroom house, with fully fitted kitchen, bathroom, living room space and deck to be used by guests. It is simple but really comfortable and has some privacy from the main farmhouse. There is one room with a Queen-sized bed, and a small single room, with an additional pull-out trundle if needed. As you will be staying separate from the main house, we prefer guests who are happy to be a little independent when it comes to meals - we will provide pantry staples, and enjoy sharing meals together when it works, but won't eat all meals together. You can get phone / 5G connection on our phone, but the house doesn't have its own internet service.

Autres infos...
The farm itself is full of beautiful walks, temperate rainforest, wildlife and nature. It is located just 12 km from the local small town, and 27km from the nearest coastal town, which has access to beautiful beaches. There are wineries, hillwalking options, and the nearest city is 70km away. The mountain-bike riding mecca of Derby is just 40km away. Tasmania is such a stunning place to be, there are too many places and things to see to mention.
We are a bit time-poor at times, with our 3-year old, the farm, my studies and work, but when we do have free time, we like to have friends over for shared meals, go camping by the coast, visit friends in the city or go to local events.
As we are transitioning between gardens at the moment our veggie garden is not very full at the moment.
