    Description

    Hi!

We’re a family of four living just outside Tortosa, in southern Catalonia. My husband is a retired teacher of Spanish for foreigners, and I'm a teacher at a secondary school. We have two daughters, 17 and 15 years old.

Originally from Spain, we spent many years living in Amsterdam, where our daughers were born. In 2013, we moved south to Andalucía (Guadix, Granada), and in 2018, moved north to Tortosa, Tarragona. Moving around has always been part of our lives, but in 2020 we fell in love with an old masia—a traditional Catalan farmhouse— and we decided to make it our dream home. We’ve been restoring it slowly with love and care, and finally moved in the summer of 2024.

We love nature, animals, and spending time outdoors —whether it's walking, cycling, or simply enjoying the peace and quiet. We also love music. Actually, whenever we travel, the saxophone and the violin always travel with us (and if we could, we could also take our piano!) . We enjoy reading, and our daughters love drawing, painting, dancing and crochet.

Every year, we go back to the Netherlands to visit friends and family. We want our daughters to stay connected to the Dutch language and culture.

We'd love to welcome someone (ideally a couple or a family) who’d enjoy spending some quiet time here, taking care of our two cats and the garden while we're away.

Although we’re new to the Workaway platform, the spirit of sharing and community-building has always been part of our lives. Over the years, we’ve shared homes, cars, and time with people from all walks of life. We love the idea of slow living, helping each other out, exchanging knowledge, and getting to know people from different cultures. As a multilingual family, we enjoy every opportunity to practice different languages together.

Our home is surrounded by nature but still close to town—it’s a 20-minute walk to the centre of Tortosa.

So if you’re someone who enjoys animals, slow living, and having time and space to yourself, you might really like it here.

The main help we need while we're away is:

    - Animals: feeding and caring for our two cats (Pingu and Pancho). They are friendly, spend most of the day outside, and sleep inside
    - House: keeping the house clean and tidy
    - Garden: watering our (vegetable) garden. Depending on when you're here there may be other small things to help with (like weeding)

These tasks are quite simple and don’t take much time, but they’re important to us.

Depending on your skills and interests, there may also be a chance to help with small DIY projects or light restoration work around the house. It’s not required at all, but if you enjoy that kind of thing, we’re happy to involve you!

Also, depending on your availability, you could help us get our beach house ready (cleaning, weeding the small garden).

You'll stay in our home while we're away. You'll have access to everything. The same applies for our beach house.

Our "masia" was originally built in 1900, and we’ve kept many of its original details like the colorful hydraulic tile floors and traditional staircase. At the same time, we’ve made it comfortable and eco-friendly with solar panels, rainwater collection, high-efficiency windows, and good insulation. Even in the summer heat, the house stays pleasantly cool without air conditioning.

    Ground floor:
    - A large porch, sunny in winter and shady in summer, with a fireplace/barbecue.
    - Kitchen, dining area, and a cozy sofa space, plus a pantry. We have Google TV with tons of channels and movies to enjoy at any time.
    - A guest bathroom (still under renovation).

    First floor
    - Two bathrooms with showers.
    - One master bedroom.
    - Two single bedrooms.
    - Two studies.
    - Piano room
    - A terrace with a laundry room.

While we're away, the house is all yours!

If you're travelling with a van or camper, there's enough space on our property for you to park it.

You can use our bikes (2 adult, 2 children).
