Hello, Hola, Jambo!
I along with my colleagues/volunteers, strive very hard with the most vulnerable children and adolescents by catering to projects situated in the Northwest region of the United Republic of Tanzania on the South-Western shores of Lake Victoria.
This is a small not-for-profit, Children’s Rights organization located in rural Bukoba. Our focus is on the empowerment of children and young youth suffering from abuse, poverty, and exclusion. We focus on teenage girls as well as children living on the street. We continuously try to change the often, unbearable living conditions of our beneficiaries. Furthermore, we co-operate with local schools, social welfare officers, and other NGOs as well.
The purpose of our projects is to aid our beneficiaries by fighting against poverty and injustice.
1. Street Children & Young Youth Project
We visit the local streets to assess their condition, teach children some subjects, conduct sports & games provide first aid, and speak to them to find an opportunity to encourage them off the streets and also reunite a child with their families. We then create a file with background information for every child accounted for, which helps us identify their needs, locate any newcomers and assist them as well as refer them to the applicable services.
We currently focus on the street project. We want to improve the conditions of young youth and children's livelihood by providing them with soft and technical skills for professions such as carpentry (woodwork), welding, computer and business skills along with self-awareness. This helps improve their ability to get better job opportunities, resume school, and connect with shelters and families. Moreover, the organization provides literacy lessons for those who do not know how to read and write. We need your experience in employability and turn ideas into viable jobs or create jobs from surrounding challenges.
Additionally, we helped initiate a program that identifies children and young youth based on their talent or skill which will help them become employed and get off the streets.
We also assist in initiating activities such as talent shows where children and young youth can participate through musical performances as well as different sports like soccer by meeting with counselors to connect them to the applicable partners according to skill. The project helps collaborate with different organizations or companies, communities, and individuals to create a conducive environment for an apprenticeship to further develop their talents/skills.
Other which can be applicable
As we said our main focus is now to improve the living conditions of street children and youth. Moreover, we are also cooperating with different schools where we sometimes teach about sexual health, computers, etc. If you are interested in visiting the school and teaching the youth, we can arrange to go to school at least once a week.

If you have the willingness and/or experience with grant writing, fundraising, report writing, or if you know organizations, people, or businesses that could support us, come make a difference!

Volunteers/interns will be able to stay with a host family where everyone has separate rooms. At present, we have 2 rooms for accommodation where one is sharing (same gender) and the other is private. The restroom is shared with other people staying.
We normally provide volunteers/interns with 3 meals a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) whenever they are in the home or office where vegetarian meals are also available. We offer locally sourced, fresh, and nutritious produce in meals cooked for other volunteers and people working at the project including children. Please let us know in advance if you have any strict dietary restrictions. Bukoba is abundant in natural varieties of food, with a rarity to have European dishes. Volunteers/interns will also have the chance to travel to the local market to buy food and prepare it as they wish when working with us.
Furthermore, a volunteer/intern can learn to prepare local dishes (cook) or prepare his/her home dishes.
We kindly ask all volunteers/interns to contribute a small amount of (USD 5) per day, this cash will support the host to provide you with the meals during your stay, it will be paid directly to the host family or the person in charge of purchasing food for a charity/NGO. It will use only for the purposes of food and not as a donation towards the project or charity
On non-working days, volunteers/interns can relax at the beach at Lake Victoria and explore Bukoba.
We have a dear friend who is an excellent guide and can recommend many interesting sights to see! There are cultural attractions and waterfalls among other things. There are also many Boda Boda (motorbike taxis) to help volunteers travel within the city.
