  Description

  Hello,
  
  We are a group of friends organising folk events in Ghent (Belgium), working on a non-profit basis.
  Folk is a warm, welcoming community where people of all ages come together to enjoy beautiful live music and to dance — both in couples and in groups.
  
  We organise one dance evening per month, and in February 2026 we will host the second edition of our winter Folk Festival in Ghent, growing from our successful first edition. We expect around 450 attendees, and we would love your help to make it happen!
  
  The folk community is very open and you will be warmly welcomed. There will be opportunities to join dance workshops and initiations, but you are absolutely free to participate as much (or as little) as you like — dancing is never mandatory.
  
  For our first edition, we had about 60 volunteers, a mix of Belgian and international participants. We hope to build a similar team again this year, and there’s still room for you to join!
  
  There will be plenty of chances to meet local dancers, musicians, and international guests, and to truly experience the heart of folk culture.
  
  When do we need help?
  
  During the festival: February 2026 (exact dates will follow soon!) — for support before, during and after the event.
  → We can provide accommodation for this period.
  
  At our monthly folk dance evenings: Usually we rely on local volunteers, as we unfortunately cannot offer accommodation for these smaller events.
  
  There are also several other balfolk festivals in the area (Belgium, Netherlands, France, Germany). If you want to experience even more, one of them — in Leuven (March) — is also listed on Workaway.

  You will get to know the world of European BalFolk in its most intimate sense, 3 days of fun and true connection.

  We'll need all sorts of help, at the registry, taking care of artists, helping building up & taking down decorations.

  The festival is in the city of Ghent itself, so it is very reachable by public transport. In your free time you can enjoy the festival or the city itself.
