  • Description

    Description

I live in a very small village (about 150 people) around 80 km south of Berlin. It’s a quiet rural area with lots of nature. The next town is 5 km away and easy to reach by bike; a car is also available when needed.

I’m a freelance filmmaker living with my 18-year-old son in an old farmhouse with a large garden, fruit trees, chickens and a dog. I work creatively and independently and value focus, craftsmanship and practical solutions over big concepts. Life here is practical, rural and mostly self-organised.

I’m mainly looking for reliable help with everyday tasks: gardening, harvesting, food preservation, simple repair and construction work, and basic housekeeping. The work is hands-on and sometimes physical.

There is a well-equipped workshop that can also be used for your own projects. In addition, there are some sports equipment, a large orchard meadow, a campfire area, and a spacious studio that can be used for yoga or painting. All of this is possible by arrangement and mutual agreement.

I value a friendly and respectful atmosphere, but I also appreciate independence and personal space. This is not a community project, but a practical exchange: help with daily work in return for accommodation, food and a calm place to stay.

If you like working independently, being outdoors and contributing in a straightforward way, you’ll probably feel comfortable here.

    Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre

Travellers can gain insight into a creative, hands-on and fairly self-sufficient rural lifestyle. During your stay, you may learn or experience:

    – growing, harvesting and cooking food
    – basic care of chickens, vegetables and herbs
    – practical work around the house and in the garden
    – managing the garden using rainwater
    – spending time outdoors, with opportunities for walking, trail running or cycling
    – insight into filmmaking and film editing, including observing my work process
    – informal conversations by the campfire, if it fits
    – occasional visits to local cultural events such as concerts

Exchange happens naturally through daily life and work. I’m also open to learning from the skills, ideas and perspectives that travellers bring with them.

  • Aide

    Aide

I try to produce a lot of our food myself. This means regular help in the garden: weeding, caring for plants and harvesting, depending on the season. During harvest time there is also quite a bit of kitchen work, as I experiment with different ways of preserving food.

The old house always needs maintenance. From time to time this includes repairing or building things, and some of the work can be physically demanding. Help with everyday housekeeping is also very welcome.

As I work freelance, there are periods when I’m very busy. During those times, support with daily routines like cooking or cleaning helps a lot. I enjoy cooking, but I’m also very happy when someone else takes over from time to time.

I usually have more ideas than time, so there is always enough work to do — but tasks are discussed and agreed on realistically.

    Hébergement

You’ll stay in a rustic, simple room with a wood stove and plenty of privacy. Expect the company of noisy chickens nearby. Reliable Wi-Fi is available. The room can be shared by two people if you’re comfortable with that.

You’re also welcome to stay in a tent. In addition, there is a small old-timer caravan located further back on the meadow that can be used as accommodation. If you bring your own caravan, there is plenty of space available.

The area is surrounded by a lot of nature, with many trails and footpaths for walking and exploring. Horse riding is possible directly in the village, and the region is well suited for cycling.

The nearby town of Bad Belzig offers practical amenities and some leisure options: a thermal bath, an old castle, a cinema, restaurants and basic shopping.

The region attracts quite a few artists and alternative projects, which creates an open and diverse atmosphere. There are occasional cultural events such as concerts, workshops or small gatherings, as well as nature-related activities. Participation is optional and depends on interest and timing.

I welcome workawayers with dogs, as I have done before, but it's important to note that I have a dog and my chickens roam freely. The responsibility falls on the workawayers to ensure the safety of all animals in my home.
