Description
We live on a beautiful remote farm in the Klein Karoo semi-arid region of South Africa. We are located in the Western Cape Province.
Our dream is to create a retreat for nature lovers. We are a family of three with 6 cats, 2 sheepdogs and a Great Dane.
We have two accommodation units for guests who come to our remote region to be close to nature. We offer some catering for our guests as well. We are continuing to develop the retreat and there is still a lot of work to do.
The main work at the moment includes building maintenance, general upkeep of the farm, cleaning, help around the house with cooking, laundry etc, doing admin work and spending time with our baby boy.
Our farm is 100ha, and beyond the “small holding” (our house and outbuildings) you will find large open spaces, hills and small cliffs, riverine thicket, rock formations, fossils and beautiful views of the distant mountain ranges.
The farm is remote and isolated and volunteers must be able to work independently. Strong able hands and mature nature lovers are most welcome. Experience with manual work and an understanding that our conditions are quite harsh here is important.
All meals are included although we appreciate a small contributions to the food cupboard - we are very passionate about wholesome home cooked food - no additives here! We have a limited wifi internet connection which volunteers can use with our permission to stay in touch on their own devices.

All our volunteers are exposed to permaculture systems in practice and information about healthy eating and living with a focus on nutrients and conscious consumption and sustainable living. We have a large library of gardening and permaculture books which our volunteers have access to. All aspects of our life on an isolated semi-desert farm; and our business providing a nature retreat for guests; are shared with our volunteers who may get involved as much or as little as they'd like to.

Organizing and general maintenance of the farm and clearing redundant infrastructure .
General day-today work that volunteers help with:
Helping around the house with day-to-day chores
Cleaning the guest accommodation and helping looking after our guests

Hébergement
Volunteer accommodation consists of two rooms located in our home. Each room can sleep two volunteers ( 2 single, 1 double bed). The bathroom is also located in the house and is shared with the rest of the family. Volunteers are also welcome to bring their own tents.

Volunteers must be ok with the remoteness of the farm and be willing to
work alone. Vegetarians and couples/friends are very welcome! All meals are included - we are very passionate about wholesome home cooked food - no additives here! We have an excellent wifi internet connection which volunteers can use with our permission to stay in touch on their own computers/pads.
