When meeting David things just clicked into a positive place straight away ! One of the first things I appreciated was his first contact letter via Workaway, he wrote his message in a way that showed a careful person who had made an effort to communicate in English and was genuinely interested in my project.
I think David has two great major
… read more strong points in his character, integrity and a positive outlook, so of course things went very well for us right from the word go. Our Workaway deal was also really good, we would vary our periods of workdays during the week depending on our availability, he would spend time doing his stuff and then do a few days work either alone or together. He is also energetic and very motivated, always ready to get into a project and get the work done ! One morning he was feeling bad and unwell so I suggested he take some time out and rest, chill and recuperate, when I asked him if that was ok he replied; nah I think I want to paint !
During his time at my mountain house he and Thomas, cleared the trees around the tin shed, dug out a trench and repaired the rotten lower planks on the shed and reinforced the posts in the ground. Alone at my place in Colomiers he cleared old branches from the trees, made a frame to protect the plants from frost, finished the mosaic wooden table top, painted the music room, wire brushed the radiator…. and many more things to help the project move forward. I really appreciated that he would never hesitate to ask if he needed my opinion or wasn’t sure how to do something, he was also good at clearing up and putting tools back in order after a job.
And last but not least we had some good fun together joking and talking, camping out on the mountain, some great pizza parties, card games and we even got to level eight in the Mind game !!
Thank you David for coming to stay with me and sharing your enthusiasm for exploring life and working hard to get a good job done. I wish you all the best on your project and hope to see you again so we can exchange more music and have fun !

Some time has been passed, since I was staying at Dorians House in Colomiers and in the one in the Mountains, but I wanted to have a quiet minute to sit down and wirte about my experience:
This was my first workaway experience and it has been a blast. When I contacted Dorian the communication went straight to phonecalls and we would arrange a
… read more meeting. I wanted to be near Toulouse, because my girlfriend was studying there at the time.
At first I could not believe, how fast Dorian connected my girlfriend and me to his friends.. The first weekend I spent at the Mountainhouse (Later to be known as the Lea(f)ve Lodge) with a lot of very kind and loving people. We helped to prepare some food and would cut some firewood. Then I also got involved in the beautiful routine called Aperetif. After this weekend Thomas came by to help Dorian, too. I think we had a great time up there and the three of us were working very good together. Most of the time Dorian would share his ideas about how the work should be done, but then left us some creative space. I was happy, that Thomas was there, because he had a lot more experience than I have. Every day we had great meals made for us by el chefe himself. I did a lot of things I've never done before in that mountainhousetime, which I am very grateful for (for example cut down trees, doing cement, rebuilding a small hut... and so one). I fell in love with that mountainhouse and a few weeks later I found myself with my girlfriend in that same house doing some painting, but mostly enjoying the time. That shows how much trust Dorain put on me. We also had a beautiful walk to the mystic mountain Cagir and spent a night in nature. I can highly recommend going there and spent some time with the mountainhorses. After that we visited the Market of St. Girons, without this visit I wouldnt have any christmaspresents.
When we went to Colomier we figured out a good routine: I came Tuesdayevenig until Fridayevening and the rest of the weekend I could spent with my girlfriend or on a biketour to the mediterrean sea.
In Colomier I helped Dorian to finish a table, that Thomas has begun. Of all the work I have done I am probably most proud of this piece of wood. It really looks great and I cant wait to see the finished table with the sink on it. Sometimes I worked alone in the garden (cutting down bushes, collecting leafs) or in one room, where I painted and did some woodwork as well. As you can see the work was so variable that I barely can fit everything in there. I enjoyed working with Dorian as well, because he always wanted to know your opion about stuff. At first I was confused, because I thaught thats his project, but I came to an understanding that we're in this together and it's mostly about:
Having a good time!
I really learned that from Dorian. Because we did not only work. Dorian is a very funny, intelligent man, that has an absolute great taste in music. We had a lot of fun, but also deep conversations.
I really enjoyed my stay and I am pretty sure, that we will meet again!Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

Thomas spent two weeks with me, first of all he is a very kind and attentive person, fitting in straight away and finding his way around my house and being helpful right from the start. Thomas has very good manual skills and was able to be self sufficient in no time, he would come and find me if he had a question, otherwise he would just get on with the job at hand, in good humor often laughing and joking with his co-worker David.
In the first week, they cut down bushes, dug out earth behind the cabin, cleared branches, made wooden box frames, reinforced the frame and made cement foundations, plus helping me out with cooking, playing some good card games and telling jokes !
On the second week Thomas made a really beautiful table top, a neat mosaic design out of planks to put in my bathroom. We then made some big window frames together for the hut, in record time !
Thomas is hard working, sensitive, caring and fun, we also had some good discussions about one of our favorite authors; Daniel Quinn the author of Ishmael. I wish him well on his travels and look forward to seeing him again with pleasure !

I had two great weeks at Dorians place. He is a wonderful chef and I'm already missing his food. His place in the pyrenees is very beautiful and he has alot of good ideas how he can get it even more enjoyable. We were working on an old cabin, which might become a guest/meditation room. I learnt alot new and Dorian asked often after my opinion

Thank you for the great time and hopefully see you again.

I am so glad Dorian was my first workaway host! As soon as I arrived, he let me rest up and then gave me a detailed tour of all the historical spots of the city and where to have fun. I am very grateful for all his help and look forward to reading about his future adventures as he travels the world !
