If you stay with the Bourgeois family, Deanna and Trent will introduce you to so many lovely people and take you to as many places as possible, allowing you to experience their daily lives and the southern charm. Deanna and I had so many great conversations. You can talk to her about anything—she listens, helps, and supports you in every situation.
Deanna and I experienced New Orleans together and she showed me Baton Rouge. Some days we spend time organizing things in her church and spending time there with great people.
Trent gave me a real taste of country life, taking me to his camp and his shows.
They have a big family and many friends, so I also got to spend a few days with Deanna’s daughter and her kids, who are absolutely adorable and lovely. Trent’s parents live nearby, and I even had the chance to spend a few days with Trent’s mom at her preschool.
All in all, it was an unforgettable time! If you are looking for wonderful people who will treat you like family, I can absolutely recommend staying with them!

I cannot recommend this family enough. If you are looking for a welcoming southern experience, this may be the host you’ve been looking for!

I had the opportunity to stay with the Bourgeois’ for a few months, and a few of my daily tasks consisted of doing the dishes, washing the two cute dogs (Moss & Dottie), sweeping/mopping, visiting with Deanna’s parents (Mimi & Poppy), helping with the grandkids from time to time, staining the deck, pressure washing and working in the garden. The schedule was very flexible, easy-going, and consisted of enjoyable work. I learned a lot, and still till this day, fold my towels and sheets the way Deanna had shown me lol
I also got to attend all of their events like I was just another member of the family; for example, birthday parties, family gatherings, weddings, Deanna’s youth group, Trent’s music gigs, Sadie’s soccer games, Mardi Gras events, trip to New Orleans/Baton Rouge, crawfish boils, weekends at the camp, etc etc etc. I got to experience so much more than I was expecting, and I absolutely loved it.
I could keep going about this once in a lifetime experience, but I’m afraid my description wouldn’t do it justice.
I cannot wait to visit and see the Bourgeois family again in the future ❤️
I will forever be grateful that Deanna and Trent allowed me to be part of their family when they did.
I highly recommend this host and hope you have the chance to stay with them as well. Enjoy your travelling, fellow WorkAwayer!

DeAnna and I had chemistry from the get-go. Like a kind and understanding mom, she will effortlessly make you feel at home the moment you two begin sharing lives together. She also has a gift for charming everyone she meets, so it's not uncommon to see her chatting with strangers whenever you two go out. Trent and most folks on his side of the
… read more family love doing country activities, especially hunting, riding ATVs or four-wheelers, boating on the swamp, going to camp, and hanging out in the barn, so if you enjoy outdoor activities, he's your guy. Both he and DeAnna are well-connected in the community, so you'll have many opportunities to meet a variety of other community members throughout your stay.
Besides meeting more locals than I can count, I also visited a wide selection of places. Right after I hopped off the plane, DeAnna offered to take me on a tour of New Orleans, specifically Jackson Square and the French Quarter. Over the course of the next four weeks, she and other members of the family took me to their camp, a Cabelas/Bass Pro Shop, the Cajun Village, one of Trent's gigs, a swamp, two Mardi Gras parades, a livestock show, a Methodist youth retreat (DeAnna currently works as a Youth Director for her church), waffle house, and a sugar cane plantation.
When her profile says they are a "busy bunch" and to "get ready to live a new life", she means it. As someone who comes from a small family, one of the biggest changes I had to acclimate to was living in the same neighborhood as dozens of other family members. Altogether she and Trent have 5 grandkids (three toddlers, and two babies, as of 2023), and sometimes (usually Thursdays) they're in the house all at once. Babysitting and playing with them one or two days a week was definitely a new challenge for someone who hadn't been around kids for the last 4 years; however, by the end of my trip, I felt more confident working with kids than I'd ever felt before. I hope to return again later this year to see how much they've grown. If you like children, boy, is this the place for you!
On a day-to-day basis, my chores consisted of helping DeAnna organize items for the garage sale, gardening, cleaning the house, bathing the dogs once a week, and spending time with her elderly parents, Mimi and Poppy. In the short month that our lives overlapped, we ate breakfast and dinner together a few times each week, watched t.v. together, and reminisced about our lives. Overall, the work was pleasant and the schedule was flexible.
My last word of advice to anyone who's interested in staying with this family is to keep an open mind and be open to new experiences. As someone who spent most of her life on the West Coast, this corner of the country often felt like another world. It is truly unlike anywhere else in the U.S., but that's what makes it so worth traveling.Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

I stayed with Deanna and Trent for about 5 weeks, they are a beautiful family, very caring and make you feel very welcome. I was primarily there to assist with looking after Deanna's parents and I stayed with them. I would vist with mini and papa every day and I would assist them by do things they can't do any more like change the light bulbs,

I would also assist Deanna with daily tasks, the work was light and not much was asked of me. I really enjoyed going with Deanna to church and also church lunches, the congregation was very welcoming and open to me being present.
The only down side for me was the lack of walking, this area is not designed for people that like to explore the area by walking, I would go for walks with Deanna's daughter in law in the suburbs but I did find it difficult to not have the ability to up and go.
If you want to experience louisiana then I would definitely recommend staying with Deanna and her family, we went to Baton Rouge, New Orleans, a few of Sadie soccer games, watch Tent play in a bar in the swamp, had a beautiful thanks giving with the whole family just to name a few things we did. they are lovely and I enjoyed spending time with them, I really connected with Deanna son and his wife, I wish them all the best for the future. Thank you again for you southern hospitality and treating me like one of your own.Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

Deanna and Trent work full time and Sadie is in high school so I was alone at the house for much of the day which was a bit lonely. I mostly helped with domestic work such as dishes, laundry, and cleaning. I also helped clean and prepare the rental house for the next renters, wash the dogs, declutter and organize, make goat blankets, weed the garden, and take grandparents to doctors appointments. The work was very easy and relaxed because Deanna wants you to enjoy your time here.
And as for what I ate, although veganism is very foreign to them, Deanna was always understanding and is a great cook. She is also very kind and motherly and has the great gift of being able to connect with everybody. She has a lot going on and yet had the time and energy to bring me in and make me feel at home. She’s also really on top of communication which I appreciated. When I got sick she was so kind and compassionate, checking on me and giving me plenty of time to recover. She is generous and people loving and when I was leaving was already discussing who can come visit them next because she hates having an empty house.
During my time there I learned so much about Louisiana culture and country life. I experienced a livestock show, biked levees along the Mississippi, walked through historic graveyards, heard stories about the flood that devastated their parish several years ago, cared for the goats, attended some of Sadie’s soccer games, explored the French Quarter, listened to Trent’s talented band at a local bar and did a bit of dancing. I love how much history and culture is here!
This is a very special family! I’ll miss them!
