Description
Sues-day! Hello from Cambodia!
We are a local organisation helping to educate underprivileged children in rural Cambodia. We provide free English classes and believe that education helps create a brighter future for local children.
Founder of the school, Sophara, spent much of his early adulthood as a practicing monk where he was given the opportunity to be educated and learn English at Bakong Pagoda. In 2013 with the financial and emotional support of his dear friends from Australia he was able to achieve his dream of building a school for his community so that the underprivileged children can be educated in the English language as he was.
The school is located in Speankaek Village (about 15-20 minutes from Siem Reap by tuk-tuk, where Angkor Wat temples are and is also very close to the beautiful and rarely visited ancient Bakong temples which are only 10min away by tuk-tuk).
The school offers a home-stay option, which is a wonderful way to immerse yourself in Cambodian culture, learn a bit of Khmer and enhance your volunteer experience. Plus, you get to wake up to Mama's delicious coconut waffles every morning :) Therefore the school has previously been a fantastic base for exploring both Siem Reap and the countryside with ease whilst having a very authentic experience living with locals in a Cambodian village.
Volunteer opportunities include
- teaching English
- construction/general maintenance
- marketing/fundraising

Volunteers can visit the many sights around Siem Reap including the Angkor temples, local markets, as well other villages near town. Tourism is high so it is easy to meet many people from other countries as well to make friends while here. It is very inexpensive to take local tuk tuks around all of Siem Reap or buses to other cities like Phnom Penh.

Our school operates five days per week and classes start at 8:00 in the morning so a volunteer’s day will begin at 8 am. English classes are run from 8:00 am to 10:00 am and 2pm to 4pm. If you are not teaching your hours will be fairly similar as there is always something that you can help with, however we are flexible with the work schedule.
You will have plenty of time to play with the kids, socialize with other volunteers/locals and visit Siem Reap city and its captivating surroundings. Saturday and Sunday are your free days to spend however you wish and Siem Reap town is only a 15-20 minute Tuk Tuk ride away!
This is truly a unique experience in the fact that you stay at a homestay which is located on the school grounds. You get to experience traditional Cambodian life and stay with a wonderful Cambodian family. This also means you get to spend more time with the children and the local village people.Langues parlées

Home-stay (located on school grounds)
Shared Room
Shared rooms are no more that three people and include bedding, mosquito net and fan.
Private room
We currently have one private room that can be booked (if available). It is ideal for a couple or for someone wanting their own space.
The school provides breakfast for all volunteers which is covered in the small weekly fee. Lunch and dinner will cost you on average $3 per meal. This authentic Khmer food will be either prepared by Sophara’s wonderful wife and amazing cook or from one of the nearby restaurants. The school will do its best to organize lunch and dinner for you but this is charged as a pay as you eat service and we understand that you may choose to venture to town to eat at one of the many amazing restaurants or cafes.
There is free filtered water, herbal tea and coffee offered at the home-stay which is available at anytime.
Other miscellaneous items we provide are a padlock for your room, a first aid kit for the school/volunteers, school supplies/materials for your classes, WiFi, and 24 hour electricity to charge your electronic devices.Autres infos...
Although we are not located in the center of town it is still very easy to get around. TukTuks and motos are the most common ways to get around in South East Asia and in Cambodia. There are several TukTuk drivers who can be called for you and we can arrange for a pick up and drop off service to the airport. Please book in advance if you need to go somewhere. A TukTuk will cost you about $4 to town. A moto would best if you have two or less and can cost about $5 each.
Nearby you have the town of Siem Reap (easy to get a motor ride or tuk-tuk into town) where you can go for dinner at the endless night markets and enjoy the lively cafe/bar scene.
Angkor Wat temples are within good reach for an awe-inspiring sunrise or day-off of exploration, as well :) We are more than happy to advise on the many fantastic things you can do in and around Siem Reap.Informations complémentaires
