Our house in Mont-ras, Catalonia, is similar to a terraced house in the UK. There's quite a lot of work to do and with Alfonso, my husband, being mobility challenged, we sometimes require extra help. A carer/cleaner does the basic housework and takes care of Alfonso once or twice a week. So, basically we need someone to help in the garden, to do a bit of cooking and to keep Alfonso company when I go out. Alfonso speaks English, French and Italian besides Spanish and Catalan. He is fun-loving and enjoys meeting new people. He loves music, philosophy and art. I'm sorry about the out of date photos but I can't find a way to update them!
The area is very pleasant, just 4 kms inland from the prettiest landscapes on the Costa Brava and there are hills too where you can go hiking. We no longer have a dog, but for animal lovers or people who enjoy being occupied there are municipal kennels for stray or unwanted dogs where you can work as a volunteer.
Please bear in mind, however that this is not the sunny south and we do occasionally get cold, wet weather in winter. We would also like to ask you to bear in mind that Alfonso's condition as a mobility challenged person and mine as carer make us vulnerable to viruses. Consequently we do not feel comfortable about hosting people who are not vaccinated. Sorry about that!

Alfonso used to work as a tourist guide and knows Catalonia very well. he loves to tell people about interesting places to visit, not only in Barcelona but in other areas too.
Helpers' duties typically consist in gardening, keeping Alfonso company during the afternoon and evening plus cooking some dinner. Alfonso appreciates company and is fun-loving and communicative. He often needs help with the computer/mobile and likes to practise his English and also French and Italian. He enjoys music a lot too. It helps if you have experience in caring for the elderly but we do not consider this essential. You need to have patience and be communicative! As I have already mentioned, we feel that it's too risky for us to host people who are not vaccinated.

I am a native English speaker also fluent in French, Spanish and Catalan. I am studying Russian and Arabic (very challenging! ).
You will be upstairs with your own bathroom, study and terrace but you would have to share our kitchen. Usually this arrangement works OK.
In your time off you can visit Barcelona, Girona or the Dali museum in Figueres. You can go cycling, swimming, hiking etc. There is no train but the bus service (SARFA) is not bad and the station is very close to our house.
There is also the possibility of volunteering at the local municipal kennels for abandoned/stray dogs.
