We have a 3.2 hectares (8 acres) small holding that we run on permaculture and symbiotic principles. We have chickens, geese, sheep, pigs, and bees. We also grow vegetables in our aquaponics system, and in our 'no dig' beds. We try to be as eco-friendly as possible and organic. We are also planning to set up a low-tech mushroom farm to grow oyster and shitake mushrooms using straw and coffee grinds later in the year.
Darren and I have been married 31 years, and we have two dogs: a border collie called Dexter and an English Bull X lurcher called Cookie. We are easy going people and pride ourselves on offering a warm welcome to guests. Although we both eat meat and produce our livestock for meat, we welcome and cater for vegetarians/vegans.
We are specifically looking for people in September2020 that can help us:
- Help build our outdoor kitchen in one of our stables - no experience necessary but must be able to do physical work.
- Put up a shed in one of the fields
- Erect another polytunnel
- Paint the exterior of the house and the shutters
- Erect a new pig pen
- Repair the field shelters and coops ready for Winter
- Tidy our garden area (if you have knowledge of planting shrubs, flowers, weeding and general garden tidying then we need you!)
We have two bedrooms (that share their own shower room) that can accommodate up to 4 people so a family, a couple or 2 friends travelling together.
Most of the activities will be outdoors so we are looking for people who want to be outdoors most of the time.
The area we live in is rural but with easy access to the town of Confolens. There is no public transport but we have 2 bicycles that workawyers are welcome to borrow. We can pick you you up at nearby train stations if needed or if you are bringing your own car there is plenty of secure parking. Camper vans also welcome.
