We stayed and worked on this project for just under a week right at the beginning of the season.
The work was satisfying as we felt we were really making a difference helping with their garden, trees, and home improvement. It was cool to see the garden beds take shape and know they are on their way to self sustainability!
Blanca and Robert were
… read more kind and friendly hosts who made certain we were comfortable and felt at home. They helped us with our laundry & transportation and took us to interesting cultural sites nearby. Always mindful of the weather, Robert kindly offered to pick us up after a long hike up the mountain turned rainy!
For us, the best part of our stay was the cultural exchange as we shared meals and conversations with our hosts and their extended family. Everyone was generous with their time and it felt like we were all at home as we played board games together after dinner or just chatted after lunch.

We had the pleasure of hosting Hanee and Rachel for nearly a week. They arrived at a particularly busy time as we were preparing the planting beds and pruning trees. Thanks to their skills and dedication, we made twice as much progress as expected. Now, the trees are thriving, and the planting beds are ready for new crops.

… read more easygoing, fun, and wonderful to be around. We truly enjoyed getting to know them and learning about their off-grid living project in Maine. Sharing meals was a highlight! Hanee’s flatbread, their Mexican dish, and Rachel’s moussaka were all absolutely delicious. From the very beginning, they felt like part of the family, and it was bittersweet to see them go.

Larissa and Marvin stayed with us for a couple of days in mid-September. They helped plant garlic, transplant strawberries, weed, water the trees, and prune bushes. Although they did not have previous gardening experience, they gave their best. We had enjoyable conversations, played board games together, and they even prepared an apple crumble.

We were traveling on the Caminho Português and spontaneously stayed a few days with Blanca and Robert. Robert traveled back to Germany at the beginning of our stay, so it was just the three of us. We enjoyed the brief acquaintance. The food was an absolute highlight; almost all the ingredients came fresh from the garden. Our work included setting

We really enjoyed this first Workaway experience and would have loved to stay longer. We learned a lot and felt very comfortable with Blanca. It was a pleasure having Jim and Gabrielle with us. They are not only polite and clean but also proactive, hard-working, and pleasant to be around. Their experience with building and working with tasks on the land was evident in how dedicated, fast, and efficient they were. They surprised us with their knowledge of how to use most of the machines

We eat two times a day, at noon a brunch and at 7 dinner. We do not eat meat or fish.
