    Description

Hi, I'm Ida, a yoga teacher with a big interest in Ayurveda, enjoying the urban lifestyle in Oslo.

It's just me living here, together with my travel souvenirs. I love traveling and exploring other cultures, but sometimes one has to be at home-so why not have the world come to me in the shape of someone from Workaway?:)

I am a calm person, you often find me with a good book, doing yoga or medtiation or with some background music on. My aim is to go more to concerts, there are so many in Oslo, all kinds of music! I enjoy good conversation, as I'm curious about the world, life.

My apartment is close to downtown of Oslo,in an urban neighborhood called Grunerløkka, where you can reach most places by foot. It's just a 5 minutes walk from the square of Olaf Ryes plass with lots of cafes, restaurants and the river (Akerselva) about the same distance.

Akerselva is the ideal place for a leisurely walk or a bit of running . There is a good yoga studio close by (Joy yoga) and one of the best coffee shops in Oslo, Tim Wendelboe. Tourists come by for their coffee tasting menu or just to have a cup. Paired with your coffe you could have something from the indoor food market, Mathallen, or what about a cup cake from Soulcake?

Walking to the centre of Oslo, with theatre, cinema (lots in English, not dubbed), cafes, restaurants, museums, the opera house and cafes by the port, good shopping centers... takes about 20 minutes. Or, it's 10 minutes with the tramway, 3 different lines passing by (about 12 trams an hour). Public transport goes late into the night.

Update: Hi, thanks for interest in my project! I have other projects for the spring, but after Easter I would love to host again. I will go on some retreats before Easter, so spending time in mobile free zones. My answer time might therefore be a bit longer.

I have also worked as a teacher of Norwegian as a foreign language, so if you want to learn, I would be glad to teach you some. After living abroad I also speak French and Spanish fluently, so we can do language exchange if you want to learn those.

My life is centered around yoga and meditation, so there is lots I can teach you about this. I love singing mantras, and try to improve my skills in guiding meditations. I have my own asana (poses) practice, but would be happy to teach you some yoga too, then yin and hatha, my favorites.

Yin yoga spiked my interest in Chinese philosophy and qi gong/t'ai chi. Those two are great to do outdoors, either in the back garden here or by the river.

I am also training to become a coach, so coaching sessions for free if you want to try and help me practice.

For some summers I worked as a tourist guide, plus I have lived in Oslo for ages, so I can tell you a lot about Norwegian culture, the best to see and do in Oslo.

You are of course welcome to join my friend and me for activites, for instance going for a movie, to a festival, to a yoga festival, bhuddist meditation or whatever else is going on.

I'm hosting as I'm curious. I want to go all over the world, so loooking forward to hear about your culture and life. It puzzles and amuses me the different customs we can have. I'm a fan of great conversation, so new topics welcome. Or a tip of another great novel to read. Hope to hear from you!

Being into holistic health, I have come to realize how important nutrition is to well being. That is realize, as I lack some in skills.

A part of Norwegian culture is that there hasn't really been a Norwegian cuisine; poverty was widespread, so it wasn't really any time to cook elaborate meals. This sort of went on, meaning there was little room for creativity. Well, house wives did what they could... My grandmother attended house wife school (yes, actually a one year study!), so she learned the basics. But then feminism came, meaning that my mother and 90 % of all other women got to busy outside the house to teach children anything about cooking. And everyone else with the busy ideal, meaning most of my friends and me have learned the basics, but I have few friends who put in an effort when it comes to food.

Being interested in holistic health, I got interested in other cuisines, for instance Indian food. I am a bit embarrased to admit it; I have a fear of pressure cookers and I'm not very good at cooking rice. Also, I really can't get my head around the planning of it. If I cook Indian is most as a special meal, not something I manage to do as an everyday diet.

But I do know some Norwegian dishes I can teach you, so we could do a culinary exchange? Some with fish, but also with meat.

Or just having fun experimenting, as the access to exotic food items is good in Oslo.

We will share the cooking; you doing it at times, me at times and both of us together. I will also assist you in the grocery shopping; it's easy to shop most of it online and get it delivered.

And well, the apartment needs to be cleaned at times. We will both do it, dividing vacuuming and dusting (nothing complicated).

I have been a teacher of Norwegian as a foreign language, would love to teach you some. We could also get into Spanish or French, do language exchange. Also culturally, as I have lived in both France and Mexico. My next project is to learn Japanese, so if you could teach me some it would be amazing. So far I know very little (sushi!), so everything is great. Plus I listen to Jpop (funny rhytms), but I don't get what the songs are about...

My apartment has a living room with a semi open kitchen and an oven, a bathroom with a bath tube..-what is needed to be comfortable. You will have your own cozy bed in the bedroom next to the bathroom. Just for you.:) The building has an amazing back yard with trees, benches and grass-a place to relax if you prefer to stay closer than the river.

As aforementioned we will be cooking, but if you would be hungry between meals you will be welcome to grab a snack from the fridge.

For the time off; Oslo has a lot to offer: shopping, cinema, museums, theatre, yoga, outdoor life (walking by the river or forest around Oslo), cafes, bars...There are various groups for expats on Meetup.com and the Internations.org platform, so fairly easy to meet people. There are also events within yoga, meditation, mindfulness.

I'm a calm person, like to rise early and keep a stable day rhytm, so it would work best if you are into a similar lifestyle. I'm intolerant of gluten, so I prefer to have products with gluten (wheat, rye, barley) separated from the ones I use. I'm a non smoker and would prefer you to be the same.

Wi fi connection is stable, I have had no issues. Easy to log on from both PC and phone. I normally use my dining room table for office work, but there are some coworking spaces around here where you can buy passes for shorter periods. Cafes with good internet close by too.
