    Description

If you are mainly contacting us about a stay at our place because it is listed as a paid position, then please stop reading. We are also not able to host couples. Minimum stay at our place is at least 8 weeks.
Your main motivation has to be to gain knowledge about the sleddogs, get out of your comfort zone, and experience the various tasks around the work with sleddogs and farmanimals.

We are a family of three ( Petra, Andreas and Liv, 2y old) running a little farm with huskies and farm animals in the municipality of Rendalen in the south of Norway.
We have a small herd of Døla cows, (an old Norwegian cattle breed) consisting of around 15 animals. In addition to the cows do we also have some sheep and goats, lamas and chicken.
On top of that do we also own 40 sleddogs, mostly Alaskan Huskies and some Siberian Huskies.
The dogs are trained and used for races and also for our mainbusiness , the touristcompany where we organize and offer sleddogtrips.
Almost every year do we get 1-2 litters of puppies which needs to be socialized and trained when old enough.
We are originally from Switzerland and moved to Norway some years ago to fulfill our dream of train and race our dogs in the beautiful nature of Scandinavia.

    Aide

We need help with the daily tasks with our animals.
This includes feeding, cleaning the kennel/stable, socializing with the animals (especially with the dogs). Each year we have 1-2 litters of huskies and we have to socialize the puppies from an early age on.
We often have some building projects going on around the house and the property. Great if a volunteer has some skills and is eager to help Petra (who is a trained carpenter) with all those different projects.
Also the dog kennel needs maintenance year round, in summer usually some repairs and in winter a lot of snowshoveling!
In late summer does normally the training for the dogs start again. The training is depending on what kind of races we plan to do in the winter.
The main tourist season usually starts around Christmas and last until ca. 20. April.
The help with the sleddogs can be hard sometimes and is physically quite craving. We have to go out in every weather to care for the dogs.
Temperatures can drop down to -25 ° C (or more =)

    Paid position:
    Please remember:
You are still on the workawayplatform, means that the salary during touristseason depends on how many touristdays etc but is not better than a good pocketmoney, but according the norwegian law of minimum wage.
Your main motivation has to be to gain knowledge about the sleddogs, get out of your comfort zone, and experience the various tasks around the work with sleddogs and farmanimals.
