Description
Hello Workawayers! My name is Adi, and I am a professional percussionist and musician. I play in various symphony orchestras and work in the Indian film industry as well. I am taking a long break to work on my own compositions and spend time in my family estate away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
My grandfather bought some land many many years ago in a rural place at the foothills of a part of the western ghats in southern India. It is located right below a beautiful hillstation called Kodaikanal in the state of Tamil Nadu, India.
We now grow many fruits including mangoes, guavas, chikku (sapodilla), pomegranate, custard apple, lime, lemons, bananas as well as coconut and a few vegetables.
For many years my family and I have not been around as much to take care of the estate, however now I am back and i would love to revive everything and bring the property back to its former glory- the way my grandfather worked so hard to create. We have had some labour to do some basic maintenance over the years, but now I am looking at really improving the estate and plan to grow more and create a beautiful place not only as a farm but also a place for artists to come and spend time away from metropolitan areas. Being an artist myself, i find peace here and I am able to accomplish a lot more than i would in a city. I would love to have like minded people come help out and enjoy the property like i do.
I have limited knowledge about farming and gardening, but I am slowly learning. My mother is an artist and farmer as well. She has a lot of knowledge about farming so she will be around to guide us.
I also love cooking, and it's an amazing feeling to walk out into the garden and pick what i need to use in my meal. My twin sister lives up in the mountains (about an hour and a half drive) and she has a farm there too where she grows various different vegetables and fruits suitable for that climate (about 7600 feet above sea level). We often exchange veggies and fruits everytime we meet, and there will be opportunities to go there as well when you choose to come help us.
I am really excited about transforming our property down at the foothills into an amazing farm and a peaceful, creative art space.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

Our property is located at the foothills of Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, India. We have a small village near our property, and we can definitely organise days where we can cook for the children in the village. Most families in the village are not as financially settled, and it is a poorer community. We can help on projects where kids can come and help with us, possibley learn English and other life skills. There are many opportunities to create, and we can come up with workshops, or days where have have the kids come help us out in the farm. We can even cook some meals for them and treat them to some healthy, fresh food.
Apart from this, just being on the property and getting involved in all the projects will help you to learn different skills that you may never have had the opportunity to learn. Life here is simple, different and there is a lot of opportunity to reflect on one's own life and get to know yourself a little better. I feel we are heading into such a fast paced life outside, and we're losing grip on our inner self. This will be an opportunity to get back in touch with the inner beauty that is in all of us, and i feel everyone needs some time for that. It is not necessary that you have tp be very skilled at the varuous things i
Have mentioned; I am looking at individuals who are keen to learn and help and enjoy the time we all spend together. Collaborations with art and music are most welcome, as well as with the agriculture. Again, there is a lot that we can do, and it's just a matter of us helping together and creating together as a community.Aide
To begin with, i would like Workawayers with some knowledge of gardening, growing all kinds of fruits and vegetables. As well as composting, sustainable farming, and introducing new crops and introducing more vegetables for all of us to share and eat. We are not looking to profit from anything, rather we are looking at more of a sustainable living type of situation. As this is a large piece of land with two houses, there will be other tasks involved including house maintenance, some small construction projects and we can even think of various building projects to support our farming ventures. I thinking about this whole thing as a blank canvas, open to new ideas to really transform the estate into sustainable place to live. There will be your usual maintenance that occurs on a farm, but like i mentioned before, i would also like to include an art aspect into it. I want to create spaces for people to come and work on their art, whatever field it may be, as well as help out around the farm. Think about it like an artist community where everyone contributes in their own way. We get our hands dirty and dabble in everything, learning new skills. I'm looking at a holistic approach to living; we have one shot at life, might as well learn and grow as much as we can.

We will all stay together in one house. It's fairly big and has two double beds and a single bed. (There is another double bed but it's for my mom when she comes- she switches between my sister's farm and the estate at the foothills) We do have two houses, however my uncle now stays in the other house, which we won't be using unless we have a lot of Workawayers coming.
The house we will all be staying in is set up a little differently, it does not have rooms, it's just one big house with the beds, and two bathrooms attached. Almost like a dormatory, but I have set it up in such a way that it feels more like a home. I have most ammenties set up and still working on more. There is a full kitchen with gas and an oven (because i like to bake) refrigerator, washing machine, air coolers, and electricity is fully set up now. I have a small wifi set up as well, but I'm working on getting a stronger connection (fiber ethernet)- however I have no problems with the wifi i have now.
It is simple yet comfy and homely.Autres infos...
There will be some time off to go out and explore. As mentioned before, we are the foothills of Kodaikanal which is a beautiful town with lots to see. I would love to take you guys on hikes and small sightseeing tours as well. With your time off you are free to travel in and around the area. I wouldn't want you to go too far and use this as an opportunity to travel India. I am serious about the farm and the art community and would like Workawayers to come with that focus. If you want to travel India you are free to do so on your own time. I will make sure that you have time to travel and visit places, but i would also like you to come back once you have had your days off. I will organise everything including transportation, stay etc. provided you are committed to the projects you primarily came to do. I am also willing to travel with you just so you have some one local to help out. Usually, if your are not from or familiar with the areas you are bound to get cheated ( usually only monetarily- you'll spend way more than you need to)
If we plan together, I am sure you will have a great time visiting this part of India.Informations complémentaires

I'm more than welcome to have Workawayers work on their own projects. Since my estate is in a rural area i use a wireless wifi connection. It is sufficient for the work i do, and signals can be boosted by paying a little bit extra. Overall it is quite cheap and works well with my work. I am in the process of getting a fiber ethernet connection as well.
Espace pour garer des vans
There is ample space to park a caravan or vehicle on the farm.
Possibilité d'accueillir les animaux
We have two dogs already so I'm sure they will all get along if Workawayers want to bring dogs, however my dogs are not used to cats so that may be an issue.
