  • Description

We are a small lodge on the Zambian bank of the Zambezi river close to a village called Chiawa and roughly 4 hours from the capital, Lusaka.
The lodge is self-catering and services the local Zambian tourism market. Most patrons come from Lusaka.
During the week we often have groups of children from Lusaka's private schools who come to the lodge for outdoor adventure camp. The camps are focused on environmental education, team building and experiential learning.

The lodge is owned and run by a family who have lived in Zambia for almost 20 years and have a good relationship with the local community. We run a community project at a local school that receives very little help aside from that which is provided by us.

The lodge is currently managed by the son of the owner and his girlfriend. Their backgrounds are in environmental ecology and project/business management respectively.

Anyone looking to get involved here need to be quite energetic, physically fit and adaptable.
Teaching experience would be of great benefit.

For the right candidate, this would be a fulfilling and fun adventure.

We are primarily looking for people to help us during our school camp seasons in May, September and October 2014.
Depending on the strengths and weaknesses of the volunteer,we can tailor make a roll to suit.
School groups are with us from Monday to Friday and the programme is quite repritive, so once you have the feel for it after one camp, the rest will be a bit easier.

During the weekends between camps, we go to Lusaka for supplies. The volunteer would be required to assist with the shopping on these trips.

We are located in a Game Management Area. This means, there is a fair amount of bird and wildlife on the lodge grounds and anyone who is interested in fauna and flora would have a lot to see here.

Species like lion, leopard, large antelope etc are viewable from the Lower Zambezi National Park. We are roughly 40km up stream form there. Game viewing can be arranged through other lodges, but will cost participants that lodge's day trip fee.
