Description
We are Patty and Pieter, a happily married couple with our beloved cat Pirincha, and a baby cat on the way! Our journey together began when Patty was volunteering through Workaway in Croatia back in 2019, where our paths crossed and we discovered our shared passion for travel, community, and sustainable living.
Currently, we are based in Pelt, Limburg, Belgium, balancing our full-time jobs with the gradual renovation of our cozy home. One of our favorite ongoing projects is tending to our large garden, where we grow a variety of vegetables and herbs. As part of our commitment to sustainable living, we love sharing the joys of gardening and the benefits of homegrown produce with others.
During your stay with us, you'll have the opportunity to get involved in our renovation efforts, explore the local area, and of course, indulge in the freshest veggies from our garden. Whether you have green thumbs or simply want to learn, we welcome volunteers of all backgrounds to join us, share experiences, and contribute to our shared space.
If you're seeking a tranquil setting to connect with nature, enjoy good company, and contribute to meaningful projects & crafts, we would love to host you in our home.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

At our home, cultural exchange is at the heart of the experience. We thrive on meeting fellow travelers, sharing travels stories, and embracing diverse perspectives. While English is our primary language of communication, Patty's native language is Spanish, and Pieter's is Flemish (Dutch). This presents a wonderful opportunity for language exchange and learning.
During your stay, you'll have the chance to learn into various aspects of sustainable living, gardening techniques, and seasonal cultivation. Spring and autumn mark our peak seasons in the greenhouse, providing hands-on experience in organic gardening. Additionally, we're surrounded by beautiful walking and biking paths, perfect for exploring the scenic countryside.
Patty brings a wealth of culinary expertise, having worked as a cook and experienced working holidays in Canada and Denmark. She's excited to share her knowledge and can teach recipes from Asian, Italian, or Chilean cuisine. You'll have the opportunity to learn cooking techniques and savor delicious international dishes made from locally sourced ingredients.
Beyond gardening and cooking, we're passionate about global exploration and firmly believe in the enriching power of cultural exchange. Whether it's discussing local customs, trying new recipes, or exchanging language skills, we aim to foster a welcoming environment where everyone can learn and grow together.
If you're seeking an immersive experience filled with cultural discovery, gardening adventures, and culinary delights, don't hesitate to reach out. We're eager to host you and create lasting memories together!Projets impliquant des enfants

Aide
We are currently renovating our house and could use assistance, especially in the garden! Tasks may include planting, weeding, watering, harvesting vegetables, or maintaining our greenhouse. If you enjoy working outdoors and have a green thumb (or want to develop one), we'd love your help in keeping our garden thriving.
Lately in Belgium, the weather can be quite rainy at times. If the weather doesn't cooperate for outdoor tasks, there are indoor activities available, such as helping with house renovations or simply relaxing and enjoying the rain from the comfort of our home.Langues

While we primarily communicate in English, we also enjoy teaching each other our native languages—Patty's is Spanish and Pieter's is Flemish. Whether you want to improve your English skills, learn a new language, or simply share cultural insights, we're excited to connect and learn from each other.Hébergement
Volunteers will have a private room with shared bathroom facilities. Alternatively, if you prefer a more adventurous experience, you're welcome to bring a tent and camp in our backyard. We'll provide access to bathroom facilities and ensure your comfort during your stay.
You're also invited to enjoy the bounty of our garden for meals. As we are not vegetarians, feel free to indulge in fresh, homegrown produce during your time here.
Our dining style at home is relaxed and casual. We typically gather for dinner together, providing a wonderful opportunity to share stories and connect after a day's work. As grown-ups, we emphasize self-service, allowing everyone to serve themselves and choose what they prefer to eat from the available options. This flexible approach ensures that meals are enjoyable and cater to individual preferences (we both are very picky). Whether you're dining indoors or picnicking in the garden, our aim is to create a welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable and nourished.Autres infos...
