    Description

We’re a small family living on a peaceful hobby farm in Kerrs Mill, Nova Scotia, nestled along the beautiful Wallace River and surrounded by forest and fields. Our property includes three geodesic domes that we rent to guests looking to experience a unique farm stay in nature — complete with private hot tubs, quiet trails, and plenty of animal encounters.

Our family includes 2 adults and 1 child, who is a true little cowgirl and loves to show guests around the animal paths. We share our days with a joyful group of animals: Highland cows, ponies, pigs, goats, rabbits, chickens, and two friendly farm dogs.

Our days are a mix of light farm work, caring for animals, maintaining our trails and gardens, and preparing our domes for guests. While we're not a commercial farm, we love sharing our rural lifestyle and the peaceful rhythm of our land. We value kindness, curiosity, and meaningful exchange, and we look forward to welcoming open-minded volunteers into our daily life.

At the ranch, we offer more than just a place to stay — we invite volunteers into the rhythm of our family life and the quiet beauty of rural Nova Scotia. Whether it's your first time on a farm or you're already comfortable around animals, we love sharing what we know and learning from others in return.

Our farm days are varied, depending on the season and the weather, but they always start with a check-in on the animals and a good cup of coffee on the porch. We're not a commercial operation, so the work here is meaningful but low-pressure — more about connection than production.

    Typical activities include:

-Feeding and caring for our animals (ponies, pigs, chickens, goats, rabbits, Highland cows)
-Cleaning and maintaining pens and shelters
-Helping with seasonal garden projects (planting, weeding, harvesting)
    -Maintaining walking trails and fences
-Assisting with preparing and cleaning the guest domes between stays
-Helping with creative ranch projects like signage, decor, or DIY tasks

    We’re happy to teach:
-The basics of animal care and behavior
-How to move gently and confidently around livestock
    -Light gardening skills
-What it takes to run a small, guest-focused farm business
-A bit about Canadian nature, slow living, and even some local cooking if you’re interested!

An average day might look like:
-Morning: feed and water animals, collect eggs, sweep paths
-Midday: help with dome turnover and laundry
-Afternoon: relax, explore the property, or join us for a creative or seasonal task

    🌿 What We're Looking For
We’re a small, family-run ranch and need someone who’s comfortable working both independently and alongside us. The ideal helper is:
    - Responsible and self-motivated — can follow through on tasks without constant supervision
    - Has a strong eye for detail and cleanliness — especially when preparing our guest domes
    - Loves animals and is comfortable being around ponies, pigs, chickens, goats, and more
-Able to work independently after initial instructions
-Tidy, respectful, and organized — we share our space, and kindness goes a long way
    - Flexible with tasks — some days it’s feeding animals, others it might be stripping beds, raking paths, or watering flowers

Evenings are quiet — we often enjoy simple meals together, and there’s time to read, soak in the hot tub, or sit by the fire.

We pay minimum wage is $15.70/hour
