  Description

  Our home is a place where people from many countries come and go, so there's always someone new here, with a new story to tell if we only listen. I love to cook, work on handy projects, learn new languages, improve the little musical skills I have, workout, sports, and of course travel. I'm trying to gain more weight and be healthier so if you cook too, that would be fantastic! Some of my goals this year are to learn how to sail a boat, gain more muscle, and establish a better photography business :)

  If you speak something besides English as your mother language, that's even better! This is important because I'm very enthusiastic to learn new languages and cultures. There are projects to participate in Manhattan near Central Park and in Brooklyn. We have strong WiFi, a big kitchen, and bicycles you can use to explore. I have a background on ships in my past career and I plan to buy a small sailboat, however I still have so much to learn about this topic.

  You could learn new ways of cooking, languages, photography, gardening, swimming, basic martial arts and basic latin dancing, building, decorating, basic guitar. I used to be an English teacher so I am happy to help with new English speakers. Of course you have all that New York City has to offer right outside your door. I have a gym membership that allows me to bring friends.

  Aide

  The hours are very flexible but responsibility, attention to detail, and organization is required. I think for initial or short term stays, you can handle the food and cleaning primarily :) There is a list of simple housework to do 5 days a week, each day can be done in one hour or less for the cleaning part. Love trying new things from different countries and I'm not too picky. I am looking for someone that can help build websites and improve my photography business. If I am gone traveling away from the house, expect to do more cleaning help or dog walking but not communal cooking as much, or if we decide on a long term stay then there are other ways to help and be compensated for your efforts as well! Just let me know your background and past experiences and what you can do, for example If you have musical teaching ability please let me know! If you don't mind, please mention the word 'sailboat' in your first message so I know if you read all of this :) Also I have some plants that need to be cared for.
Also let me know what your dreams and aspirations are, it may be that I can help you with them as well!
I'm a bit slow to trust someone new, but once you establish trust everything is better.


  If you will cook a meal for the day: For the first week or until I see that you know how to do the short weekly list of housework without supervision, correctly and on time (one day late occasionally is ok), I ask that you pay 60% of new grocery receipts between us. After you show that you know how to do everything on the weekly list right without reminder, then this changes to 50% of new grocery food receipts. This is for two reasons: 1-Because I already have tons of food in the house waiting for you of which you can eat anything you want when you arrive--breakfast, lunch ,and dinner, and pay nothing for in the beginning 🙂 Reason 2: Is for your personal motivation to learn and improve at your own pace. I came up with this plan because we don't live on a farm growing our food but in one New York City apartment, and I'm not asking you to work the same large amount of hours that you would in a farm setting. There are many grocery food markets a couple minutes walk nearby.

  Hébergement

  There is a cozy single bed available that has an option to put a canopy over it for more privacy. Private bedroom sometime possible but not guaranteed.

  The subway train is only 3 blocks away from the apartment. I like to go kayaking and other things around the city and always welcome fellow adventurers! I have several bikes I let friends borrow and also a yoga mat. Looots of spices for cooking and herbs growing in the kitchen for cooking :D Feel at home :)
 Also If you have the gusto for it, organize a game night, movie night, or cooking night for everyone in the house.
  I only have space to accept one volunteer at a time usually. Confirming multiple stays at once then cancelling takes away opportunities from other sincere workawayers and makes life chaotic for the host families. So there is a $75 reservation deposit once we decide to accept and confirm your coming, after that I will not cancel on you and you have peace of mind. This will be refunded to you at the end of your stay as long as you didn't break something while here, so it’s still free. If you cancel then it is not refundable. This is Because a lot of people send many hosts messages at the same time and then cancel last minute without a care. It’s best to plan as surely as we can especially when the travel plans of other humans depend on it :)
  If I am traveling away from the house, I will frequently ask for photo documentation and video calls of work finished to make sure things are done properly so I hope you are ok with that.
 I like to meet in person or at least do a video call first before promising anyone that I will accept them which sometimes may not be a super quick process. Best wishes in the new year ahead :)
