    Description

We are a small community and registered charity of Buddhist practitioners living in a meditation centre in the rural landscape in Ireland. We have many different volunteers helping us at our meditation centre, not all of whom are Buddhists, as we are open for anyone from any background wanting to come and learn more about our way of life.

We have three ordained people at our Centre, which includes a Tibetan Buddhist Lama (monk) originally from Tibet, the Venerable Panchen Ötrul Rinpoche, who is the Spiritual Director of the Centre. His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the patron of our Centre. We have many lay practitioners and people of other faiths who come and help us here.

The work we do at the Centre not only helps run the Centre, but it also helps us raise funds for Venerable Rinpoche's different overseas charities in Mongolia and India.

We have daily meditation practices which are open to everyone to attend. We have a library with many different books from different traditions in Buddhism.

People come here to spend time in the peaceful atmosphere here. We encourage anyone if they would like to help out during their stay here to please do so. We are a vegetarian centre and we have a vegetable garden here which helps supply our kitchen. We have different volunteers cooking for the community in the kitchen, helping in the gardens and with general housework.

All travellers and visitors to our Centre are welcome to join in our daily Tibetan Buddhist meditation practices. There are three practices throughout the day, one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and one in the evening. We also have a Meditation for Beginners session every Monday, and a Mindfulness and Awareness Meditation session every Wednesday.

As we are a community we live, work and eat together. We are unique in Ireland in that we are so fortunate to have a Tibetan Lama living with us here.

We are also part of other volunteering schemes and as such we get many different people from other countries and backgrounds living and helping at our Centre. People often come to spend time with us and participate in helping out during their stay. Such interactions provide travellers with the opportunity of having a multicultural experience in a Tibetan Buddhist Centre.

As we are a small community of volunteers living and helping together we always require help with running of the Centre. We have different volunteers coming to help out all the time and some guests who come also take part in helping us out and eating meals with us. We all share meals together. Our week is run on a rota, which we all have a meeting together once a week in which our duties for the week are arranged. Duties include general housekeeping and gardening.

We are situated beside the UNESCO Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark and the Cuilcagh Mountains. These are ideal for helpers who like to go hiking.

Our Centre is in the countryside which is ideal for helpers who would like a gentle walk around on their days off.

There are many monolithic and megalithic sites and tombs in the area.

The local village has a restored workhouse from the famine times in Ireland.

A member of our community is a trained tour guide who can provide information to those looking for things to do and places to see in the area.

There are a few buses that go to nearby towns everyday, which links up with buses to the capital city of Dublin. Bus timetables are available at our Centre.
