  Description

  We are looking from October 10 (for at least for 1 month) for workaway helpers for our olive harvest and our other daily chores .
  We are Maja and Michael, a non-smoking, married couple, 60+, vegetarians, who eat occasionally also fish and seafood. Since 17 years we are living in our nice villa in a small, remote village, 30 km west of Chania, Crete. We live in nature with our 3 dogs and 9 cats, who are our loved family members and are engaged as volunteers in animal rescue work. Therefore, we occasionally also foster additional stray dogs (or cats) after their neutering and try to find them forever homes.
  
  Our little paradise encompasses a huge garden with 40 olive trees, fruit trees, hedges, roses, flower beds, a small vineyard and a pond with goldfish that all need intensive maintenance and care.

  You can experience life in a tiny Cretan village, take part at local events and learn to know about animal welfare and rescue projects.

  Aide

  In the month of October one focus of works is the olive harvest.
  It needs some preparation, ca. 2-3 days of harvesting and some afterwork.
  In addition our garden always needs care and maintenance (weeding, cutting back, etc.) and the pond also needs regular cleaning.
  There are always some DIY projects, which can use creativity and hands on.
  Furthermore, we appreciate support with walking the dogs early in the morning, looking after and feeding all the animals, and generally helping out with household chores and cooking (vegetarian/pescatarian dishes).
  
  Good fitness and physical strength and some gardening experience are required.
  Walking our dogs on the leash requires patience, equanimity, and physical balance.
  For the DIY projects creativity and craftsmanship are very welcome.
  
  We are looking for 1-2 reliable, independent, responsible and pleasant adults, only non-smokers, who can support us for around 4-5 hours a day (or 20-25 hours per week), mainly in the mornings, and work together with us, but also independently without our presence and assistance. The minimum time of a workaway stay with us is 1 month.

  A cosy, beautiful, separate 1 bedroom stone house with private bath, external kitchen and good WiFi.

  We provide lodging and food, however it is required that you engage in preparing meals for yourself and sometimes also for all of us.

  This offer is well suited for people who not only love animals, but also have real practical experience with (rescue) dogs, who like to cook, who appreciate nature, peace and quiet and want to have a good time with us for a while - and also alone with themselves. 


  Ideally, you are looking for a place to stay 1 to max. 2 months.
  
  We recommend that you have your own mobility (car, motorbike) and that you like to walk/hike as our property is secluded in nature, where there is no direct connection to public transport. (On foot to the sea and to Kolimbari, the nearest town, where there are also comfortable buses to Chania, it is about 30 minutes downhill, about 50 minutes uphill; about 200 meters in altitude) . We can offer you the use our one mountain bike.


  
  You can explore the beautiful surroundings by hiking, go swimming at the nearby beaches, discover the charm of Cretan villages and small cities, and of course eat out in local tavernas.
