  Description

  We are a non-smoking married couple (66 and 63 years old) who are living since 15 years in a nice villa in a small, remote village 30 km west of Chania, Crete. Our little paradise encompasses a huge garden with olive trees, fruit trees, hedges, roses, vegetables, a small vinyard and a pond with goldfish that all need maintennce and care. We are involved in animal rescue work, mainly TNR (trap-neuter-release) and we live with 3 dogs and 8 cats, who are our loved family members (and host sometimes additional foster dogs as well).

  You can experience life in a tiny Cretan village, take part at local festivities, learn about Greek cooking and Greek traditions and be involved in animal welfare and rescue projects.

  Aide

  We need help with walking the dogs early in the morning (and sometimes possibly also in the evening); looking after and feeding the animals; working in the garden and generally helping out wherever we need support depending on the season (weeding; trimming hedges; chopping wood; planting a vegetable garden; tending the vineyard and trees; maintaining the irrigation system; watering pots; painting (e.g. garden furniture, fences, gates, railings); repairing whatever may be needed, ...), preparing vegetarian/pescatarian dishes.
  
  Craftsmanship is very desirable, physical fitness and strength are a prerequisite, as the ground is unfortunately quite difficult to work and walking our dogs on a leash can be challenging and also requires strength and good balance.
  
  We are looking for 1-2 independent, reliable, proactive, thoughtful, responsible and cheerful adult non-smokers, who can support us for around 4-5 hours a day (or 20-25 hours per week), mainly in the mornings, and work together with us, but also independently without our presence and assistance.

  A cosy, beautiful, separate 1 bedroom stone house with private bath, external kitchen and very good WiFi.
  We provide lodging and food, however it is required that you engage in preparing meals for yourself and sometimes also for all of us.

  We recommend that you have your own mobility (your own car, rental car) and that you like to walk/hike) as our property is secluded in nature and there is no direct connection to public transport. (On foot to the sea and to Kolimbari, the nearest town, where there are also comfortable buses to Chania, it is about 30 minutes downhill, about 50 minutes uphill, about 200 meters in altitude)
  
  This offer is well suited for people who not only love animals, but also have real experience with (animal welfare) dogs, who appreciate nature, peace and quiet and want to have a good time with us for a while - and also alone with themselves.
  
  The minimum time of a workaway stay with us is 3 weeks.
  
  You can explore the surroundings by hiking, go swimming at the nearby beaches, discover the charm of villages, cities, archeological sites and gorges on excursions, and of course eat out in local tavernas.
