    Description

I live in an off grid float cabin in an isolated bay on the west coast of BC about 30 minutes by boat from the town of Sayward on Vancouver Island.

I live by myself and I go into town every couple of weeks to get supplies. There are no neighbours, stores, or community. The cabin is warm and comfortable and has the amenities of home.

I have a number of DIY projects and home repairs that I need help with.

You will be helping me with repairs to the dock and building some outbuildings for storage. In addition there is general maintenance, chopping wood for winter, beach combing for logs and helping with a variety of tasks that go with off grid living. DIY skills will be useful, but are not essential as I can teach you, however you need to be in good physical shape with strong muscles as many of the tasks are physically demanding. Experience with boating and small engines is an asset.

I will provide three meals a day that we will cook together or take turns cooking. If you have special dietary needs or want specialty foods or snacks it is a good idea to bring them with you as there are no stores nearby.

During your free time you will be able to hike the deserted logging roads and explore rugged coastline and private beaches. You can explore several abandoned historical sites. There is an abandoned WW2 outpost with a very large mostly intact compound and large gun turrets from the 1940s close by at York Island. There are several abandoned logging sites including a dilapidated camp from the 1950s, an old steam donkey (approximately 100 year old large steam powered winch), an abandoned log yarder from the 1950s.There are many possible wildlife viewing opportunities including grizzly and black bears, elk herds, varieties of water foul, whales, and many other marine mammals. Enjoy harvesting fresh seafood including many varieties of fin fish and shell fish. (Marine opportunities may vary depending on boating experience and fishing license).
