Description
Hello, adventurers and creative spirits!
In December 2024, I began an exciting new project in Porto: transforming a centrally located house with a big urban garden into a space for experimental sustainability, creativity, and cultural exchange. We're just getting started, so what you’ll find here is raw, fresh, and full of potential.
What's the vision?
We aim to create a green and collaborative space where people from around the world contribute to something meaningful. Our long-term goal is to slowly regenerate the garden into a healthy, productive environment where ideas like permaculture, phytoremediation, and maybe someday again—wasabi cultivation—can thrive.
But for now, it's all about building from the ground up. The previous owner left behind mountains of debris, terraced the garden using construction rubble, and the soil needs love. We're tackling it step by step: removing trash, restoring the soil, and shaping the land.
We currently have only a few wasabi plants, slowly being propagated, and the greenhouse project is postponed for now—possibly to resume next year.
Who are we?
I’m the project host—fluent in English, French, and Portuguese. I believe in sustainability, cultural exchange, and building a better, fairer world. I'm always hosting friends in the house as well. Sometimes they stay to help with the project, sometimes they just need a place to land.
Our home is a friendly, open-minded place. We value authenticity and respect. We cook and eat together, jump in the water tank when it's hot, and love good music and spontaneous dancing. We do enjoy our downtime and our chill time, and we appreciate others who know how to balance work and play.
What do we expect from you?
We ask for 5 hours of help per day, 5 days a week, with a minimum stay of 3 weeks. This helps ensure that people are genuinely interested in contributing, not just visiting Porto on the cheap.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

You’ll be immersed in an international and collaborative space where everyone is encouraged to share their skills, stories, and culture. You'll get hands-on experience in sustainable living, gardening, composting, and permaculture practices in an evolving, real-life setting.
You’ll experience the challenges of starting a project from scratch. It’s not polished, and it’s not always easy, but it’s full of opportunities to learn, grow, and experiment. Whether you're mixing lime mortar, building garden beds, or making compost, you’ll gain useful skills while also contributing to a meaningful and evolving project.
More than anything, you’ll take part in a cultural exchange rooted in collaboration, open-mindedness, and curiosity. This is a space to broaden your perspective, learn new ways of thinking and living, and be part of a creative, international community building something unique from the ground up.Aide
What are we working on right now?
Preparing and working on a stone-based outdoor project near the water tank, starting from the ground up. Everything is done by hand, using a natural, low-tech method with rocks and lime.. guided by intuition, patience, and collaboration.
lifting and earth-moving to reshape the terraced garden.
Clearing thorny plants, waste, and old debris.
Setting up compost piles and working on soil regeneration using natural methods like mycoremediation and vermiculture.
Maintaining and improving the space, helping with cooking and cleaning, and keeping the home environment warm and respectful.
What do we expect from you?
We ask for 5 hours of help per day, 5 days a week, with a minimum stay of 3 weeks. This helps ensure that people are genuinely interested in contributing, not just visiting Porto on the cheap.

The house is in central Porto, walking distance to Heroísmo and Campanhã metro stations. It’s not fancy, but we try to make it cozy and have everything functioning in a DIY style.
The main house will be completely rebuilt next year by a professional team, so for now it’s all about making the most of what we’ve got.
Rooms: You’ll stay in a shared room. I try to separate genders when possible, but that depends on the group of workawayers at the time
Facilities: Two shared bathrooms with hot water, two kitchens, and common areas
Food: We provide ingredients for three meals a day. We often cook and eat together, and if you’re into cooking, that’s a big plusInformations complémentaires

The main task was to help with the newly started garden. Since everything was still in its early stages, there were lots of small and varied tasks to do. We removed harmful plants, sorted soil, rocks, and trash, dug the ground to make soil… read more
There is a lot of work to do around the place. But, the amount of work you do each day is fair for what you get. Plus, there is flexibility and variability in the type of work you do, and if its work you are… read more
There is a lot to do for his nice project and you'll learn how to build, to plant, to renovate a place.
The house is well situated, close to the station and to the city center and there is such a good living in it.
We shared good meals, good talks, good energies.
