Description
IMMEDIATE HELP NEEDED: We need immediate help in the vineyards. We need people to assist our pruning crew by raising the bird nets, prepping the vines for our pruning crews, and then pulling out all the cuttings and painting pruning wounds after the pruning crews are done. We will need this help all of January and February,
We are looking for people willing to get their hands dirty. We have 20 acres of vines planted in the heart of the Texas Hill Country on 50 acres of land. We have 4 dogs, 1 cat, chickens (fresh eggs!), and sometimes sheep.
Dan still has to work for his IT company. He spends his days bouncing back and forth from the vineyard, from conference calls to computer issues. Jeanie handles all the office and "behind the scenes" tasks for the vineyard and winery. Our daughter lives in Japan and teaches English. Our son is in college and currently helping us in the vineyard and winery.
We have two 30-foot travel trailers on the vineyard (including a queen size bed with a TV), a full kitchen, bathroom w/ shower & tub. We could have up to 8 helpers at a time, and you would need to be comfortable sharing the trailer.
Activities include but are not limited to...Pruning, tucking vines, applying bird netting, checking & repairing drip lines, walking the vineyard looking for any disease issues, trellis repair, weed control, removing bird netting, harvesting grapes, processing grapes, caring for and working with the wine, etc...
On your time off, you could tour the town, swim/kayak the river, hike, visit neighboring tourist towns, relax at the wine bar, sing karaoke at the club, and more.
The closest airport is San Antonio or Austin. Most people will take the bus to Mason, and we will pick you up at the bus stop.
We live in a small Texas town with some of the nicest people you will ever meet. This charming town has a wealth of history, historical sites, rivers, areas to hike, and art and music culture. Our vineyard is 10 miles outside town in the beautiful hill country, passing farms along the way. With the most beautiful sunsets!
You would be able to learn anything and everything it takes to grow quality grapes in the Texas Hill Country that is taking
place during the season at the time you are here.
We have.2 full-time employees living on the property and hire others for time-sensitive activities like final pruning and harvest. There is a lot of opportunity to live and work with people from Texas and all other areas of the world.
We have had ONLY 5-star "glowing" reviews. Helpers have said it is the "best help/stay experience they have ever encountered." Describing us as "honest, generous, hard working, patient, great teachers, good role models, and an inspiration." We have even had multiple helpers love Mason so much they STAYED!
NOTE: Due to US labor laws, we can only accept people with Green Cards or who have US Citizenship. Unfortunately, these new US labor laws have forced us to be less like an exchange and more like a business, even though we have not made any money yet! You will be required to fill out Form I-9 () upon arrival; if you cannot provide proper documentation as documented on page 4 of the I-9 form, please do not apply; we can not accept you. We pay minimum wage to workawayers and expect at least eight hrs of help per day with two days off per week. No overtime is allowed. We also provide free accommodations. (See details under Accommodations) We will go shopping for you when we shop for food each week, but the food is not something we can afford to pay for.
We will do a background check.
