Located in the Brushy Mountains, a spur of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The mostly wooded 40 acres encompasses walking trails, a beautiful stream, swimming pond, sauna, organic gardens and more. This is a multi-purpose facility, occasionally hosting a small number of artists, writers, couchsurfers, farm interns and folks who just need to take a deep breath and relax.
Facilities are clean, rustic and welcoming but posh we are not.
Workaway helpers are asked to help approximately 25 hours/week. Artistic contributions and other forms of making the lives of those around you better can all be counted toward that helping time. Preference is given to long term helpers interested in staying for several weeks to several months.
The nearest town (Wilkesboro) is 7 miles away with cultural centers (Asheville, Boone, Winston Salem) being 1 to 2 hours away. Food is laissez faire vegetarian.
Well behaved pets and children are a possibility with advanced approval.
Learn how to: grow a garden; drive a tractor; bake bread; cultivate mushrooms; operate a chain saw; identify and gather herbs and medicinals; build a house; live sustainably and self sufficiently; get along and contribute in a communal setting and so much more.
Major projects for spring of 2022 include major improvements to swimming hole, landscaping and building a stone wall. Also looking for someone to oversee the organic garden.
Excellent Wifi and spotty mobile phone service available but you are encouraged to limit your usage of these services and engage more fully with the nature and people surrounding you. Anyone caught texting at the dinner table will be pelted with the vegetable of the day.

Competent, thoughtful, considerate, knowledgeable, funny, well grounded; just a few of the superlatives that come to mind. Don’t miss an opportunity to host her!
Some of the highlights of my stay were the session in the sauna he and prior workawayers had built, hilarious conversations at dinner, learning how to make alcoholic ginger beer,
She blended in nicely with the small community of Workaway helpers and was always kind and considerate of others. I would highly recommend her to other hosts.

He is a very interesting, authentic, genuinely friendly man. The work is never hard, but if you show a little bit of interest, you will never be bored. He always has a dozen different projects to work on, so as long as you like to be working in and with nature, you will enjoy
I had a wonderful time staying with Tom and Co! Tom was a gracious host, has a beautiful property, adorable pets, and lots of fun projects to work on. I mostly helped with the snail shaped sauna, tending to the chickens, cooking, and keeping the dogs company. I had plenty of time to explore the

Tom is a fantastic host. I really enjoyed my stay in the A-frame, a beautiful tiny residence in the woods. This was my first workaway experience and I could not have asked for a better host. I learned so much about farming and self-sufficiency. Tom is patient and caring. Work is very fair and Tom does a great job
Tom is a lovely man and host and will not only open your eyes for living almost self-sustained and taking care of nature, but will also introduce you to mind blowing psychology and philosophical topics fired up by Sam Harris ;).
We enjoyed wonderful conversations
Wishing you all the best with your political campaign... and hope the kitten and the dogs are best of friends
