Help with projects on small farm in Pitalito, Colombia

  Description

  Hi, my name is Eber!
  
  I manage a small farm in the fresh forest hills overlooking Pitalito town. I am looking for volunteers who want to learn and help with farming, gardening projects and English language lessons as well as other odd jobs around the farm. I host workawayers because I want to have cultural exchange opportunities and to give volunteers a great experience in Colombia. I am also a British Citizen so I have a good understanding of both European and Colombian cultures.
  
  Workawayers will be helping with gardening, landscaping, field work and tending to the cows. Jobs will include milking, herding and ensuring cows are all well fed. There are always a lot of other odd jobs that arise around the farm, which I´m sure you can help with.
  
  I am an English teacher, and the Workawayer will also have the opportunity to help with English lessons, both online/virtually and in local private colleges. You will have the opportunity to interact with students of all ages and learn about their lives through a cultural exchange. There are many activities during the year that you may be able to participate in including sporting events and celebrations. Occasionally, we need help with some translation depending the language required at the time.
  
  I will provide everything you need to work with and require only three to five hours of your time throughout the day. In this time, I´ll be around to give guidance and show you every step to get the job done. The rest of the time, you can spend time with my family, and we can do language exchange and any other activities you would like to do, e.g. going into town. Workawayers tend to integrate with the family, eating meals together, cooking, playing games and enjoying trips out to local places.
  
  By the way... we are not far away from San Agustin, Huila. It is a small town and very famous for its heritage (The Archaeological Park). 30 minutes away from Pitalito city, we can find the Guaitipan lake, which is a very nice place to go and enjoy a great day out too. You won´t be able to walk into Pitalito as it´s too far on the main road, but there is a local bus that stops by the farm that you can take straight into Pitalito in less than 30 minutes.
  
  We have basic rural accommodation on the farm, including private or sharing bedrooms with beds and blankets, a gas and wood-fired kitchen, fridge, bathroom, shower and washing machine. We also have electricity, wifi and fresh spring water. You are welcome to use the kitchen whenever you like. In exchange for your efforts I will provide food while on duty.
  
  As it is a small farm, I can currently take two volunteers at a time.
  
  On the farm we grow oranges, lemons, tangerines, mangos and herbs. This means that there is plenty of fresh fruit hanging around to eat. Also, depending on the season, I can teach how to plant, nurture and gather this food.
  
  I love languages and also speak fluent English and basic French. I generally speak English with my sons and often with the volunteers. My partner speaks Spanish exclusively so you will have the opportunity to practice Spanish as well.

  Volunteers will be staying in beautiful ranch overlooking the Pitalito valley and expect lots of fresh air, wildlife and trees.
  
  We will also be practising growing the fruit and vegetables we have on the farm and learning about our simple, ecological and substainable way of living, precious skills and knowledge that can help people looking to build sustainable homes or communities of their own.
  
  Last but not least They can learn Spanish!

  Hébergement

  As I said, we have basic rural accommodation on the farm, including private bedroom with bed and blankets, gas and wood kitchen, fridge, bathroom and shower and concrete water tank for hand washing clothes. We also have electricity, wifi and fresh spring water.

  There is public transport to and from the farm every hour from the centre of Pitalito.
  
  There are forest paths around the farm, leading along the streams and up the mountain where there are many flowers and animals.
  
  We are 40 minutes from San Augustin archeological park, where the remains of ancient, precolombian civilizations can be visited. The little town is quaint and picturesque with a buzzing cosmopolitan culture.
