We speak both Spanish and English at home so you can practise both. There are also English schools for private lessons in Clifton, which is a short bus or train ride from where we live.
Hi there! We are a family looking for some help to look after our little son and daughter. They are now 7 and 3 years old, respectively. I’m Spanish and my partner is English, I speak in Spanish to our kids but we speak English generally at home. We live in Bristol, in a residential area, 15-20 minutes bus ride from the centre. There is also a train station nearby that connects to Temple Meads, from there you can find a train to almost anywhere in UK. There are also electric scooters you can hire for a small fee.
We would like somebody willing to stay for as long as possible, as the kids get used to being with you and they find it hard to say goodbye and change.
Your main duties would be to look after our son and daughter (mostly her, our son goes to school and has activities after) and tidy after them, and help with some light chores like doing dishes, emptying the dishwasher or help with laundry. You’ll have all weekends free for you. We are offering £150/week. Our son goes at school from 8:45 until 3:30 and he goes to afterschool activities that take place at the school on most days of the week. We need help for 15-20h per week. Our daughter goes to nursery 3 day per week, so we need someone for pick ups and drop offs and for Tuesdays 8:30-17:30 approximately.
Please note that the UK government has become a bit restrictive on travelling to UK to become an au-pair . We are also happy to accept au pairs from Ukraine following the UK government guidance.
There’s an adult learning centre 5 min walk from our house which offers a wide range of different courses.
We live next to a nature reserve, so you can go out everyday for a walk, go hiking and explore nature if you like. The whole nature reserve is actually quite nice :) There are several playgrounds in the area, both kids really enjoys going and having a play in the slides and swings!
If you are ready for a cuteness overload, don’t hesitate to contact us!

Hébergement
You will have a single bedroom with a wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside table for you. There is also also a desk that you can keep open or fold away. You are welcome to join us in all meals, but if you prefer to cook something for yourself that is fine as well. We are happy to buy particular things that we do not eat but that you would like to have. And if you want to cook for us, we are always happy to try new dishes!
We are happy to buy for you any toiletries that you need.
Autres infos...
There are 3 different buses that go towards the city centre and a short distance train. Bristol is genuinely a very beautiful and friendly city with plenty of multicultural activities. We live 12 minutes walk from a train station and there are plenty of electric scooters in the area.
Bristol is also very well connected with other nice cities like Bath (10 min away by train) and London or Wales. There are buses and trains that go to London airports too.
There are plenty of English schools that you could attend while you are here if you would like to.

Lucila has been one of the best Workawayers we have ever had.
She is one of the sweetest people I know, always calm and kind, always trying to help. Our kids absolutely adored her.
We really enjoyed when she came back for a few more days before she had to go back home. She cooked for us some very delicious Argentinian food!
We will always think… read more fondly of her and would love to have her back whenever she wishes to come, she will always be welcome in our house as has become part of our family :)

I spent two weeks with Mari, Steven, Thomas and Sofía and I got so attached to them that the days have passed so fast and I didn´t want to leave the house. They made me feel part of the family and the same day that I left I was already missing them. They are a lovely family!!
Sofía is a cute baby, so cheerful and full of emotions. She makes funny… read more faces and wants to try or learn to do things on her own. I really miss her cuddles and that little cheeky smile. She is very affectionate and curious, she likes to take a look at everything around! Thomas is a pretty boy too, super energetic and he has a huge imagination and creativity. I loved playing with him, we never got bored! He always had something to show me and his memory is sooo good. When I came back to visit them after three weeks of being away, he remembered about a dinosaur sticker he gave me the first day in their house! (He loves dinosaurs and Sofía loves them too because of him haha).
By the way, thank you so much for receiving me that weekend before leaving the UK, It was amazing spending a few more days with y'all!
Mari and Steven are so kind and grateful. They were always inviting me to do things with them at weekends and Mari´s free days and if I wanted to do something on my own or with a friend they respected that and gave me my own space. The activities we did together were a delightful experience and completely different (parties, exploring the nature, going to museums, etc). They made sure that I got to know Bristol at its best. They thanked me for every little thing helped, and despite them being tired or very busy, they were always cheerful and talkative. They always kept my wellness in mind and wanted to know how I was doing.
Apart from exchanging experiences, knowledge and languages, we shared our cooking skills. They are both really good in the kitchen and they enjoyed the meals that I prepared for them. Thomas said that one of them was his favourite food!
You are an excellent family! I wish you the best and I hope to see you again! Thank you sooo much for everything!! <3

It was a lovely experience having Eloise with us. She became one more member of the family straight away and our son enjoyed playing with her as if she was an older sister. She spoke both in English and Spanish and was eager to practice her Spanish with us.
When our daughter was born prematurely, Eloise helped us massively taking care of our son… read more whenever needed and she even spent her birthday with him as we were still in hospital. We are most grateful for her help and hope to keep in touch for years to come! Big hug from all of us Eloise!!

Dearest mari, Steve, Thomas & Sofía (& querida abuela),
Where do I start? Well, I already miss Thomas and it’s only been 2 days- I miss his face and his why questions when I walk through the door, and how he runs out of the living room to ask me where I’ve been hahah!
Your family has been nothing but amazing- you gave me space AND you included me… read more in your family. I felt super safe and comfortable in your home, and I hope to come back to see Thomas & Sofía grow!!
The work was always fair, and I enjoyed every part of it as I got to spend time with Thomas! (The sweetest boy ever!)
This doesn’t feel like a finite goodbye (though is infinity just a concept or is it a number? Hahaha)
Thank you for the laughs at dinner to all of you, the tasty Spanish food (and cheesy, buttery British food!), and thank you for letting me into your family! All my love, Eloise :)

Sam was an excellent au pair, like a big brother for our little son, he would come back some and run towards him to get him to play again and again! They played with his trains, draw, went to the park, read books in English and Spanish... We have been very lucky to have him and would not doubt to have him again. We will always remember him fondly… read more :)
In this charming part of Bristol, I found a sweet family to live alongside for around 8 months. I left knowing I was lucky to have found them.
I would take Thomas to the nursery 4 days a week and then have the morning and early afternoon free. Thanks to this I had lots of time for myself; to study online, go to Tai Chi up the road, go to the gym… read more (5-minute walk)...
I would then look after him when he got home for a bit more than 2 hours. Thomas loves playing with his collection of toys: trains, toy dinosaurs, lego... He loves singing, being read to, being silly... He was a joy to play with. Steven works from home so can always assist you if needed.
Steven and Mari are both great in the kitchen and cook a great variety of meals for you to enjoy. You can ask Steven for any shopping you want to add to the weekly shop.
For your weekends, Bristol is great to explore and meet new people. I started Indian yoga classes on Sundays at Yogasara studio, which I would recommend :).
I'm still in touch with Mari over WhatsApp, she's a busy mum yet was always good at communicating and attentive to my needs during my stay, a really lovely person.
Get in touch and find out for yourself.
