    Description

Hi Dan here, I live on the south coast NSW at a place called Wallaga Lake, a rural area is known for natural landscape beauty of golden sand beaches and isolated coastal estuaries. having an Indigenous ancestral connection to these lands through my father I feel a connection of cultural responsibility to care for and protect these beautiful landscapes of the Southern Yuin Nation and the unique wildlife that depend on apron these ecosystems

I've worked in many different roles over the years, all within the environment field, mostly with different government organisations and non for profit Aboriginal organizations, been a Field Ranger for both National Parks and Marine Parks,  A community liaison and support worker , delivered projects that protect threatened species and their  habitat,  projects that creating awareness of  anthropologic events and the importance of sacred Indigenous sites but now I enjoy just working for myself,

I specialise in traditional land management through the use of fire; it’s a complex but gentle approach with fire based on precise timing. This method has a holistic outcome that enhances and protects ecosystems and habitats within the Australian landscape. The fire travels across the land like water and has an opposite effect to the terrifying destructive fires that we see today. This fire regime was practiced across Australian landscape systems for thousands of years before colonization evolving together forest systems and the people as well as all living beings with a positive holistic outcome It was the way we managed and protected the unique wildlife and ecosystems that they depend on.  For many years now I've been an advocate to reintroduce this important landscape management system back into communities and government systems so that its practice regularly across all of Australia.

As humans i believe we all have so much to learn from nature, though connection and watching how it works with all it unique symbiotic relationships and patterns within each country type or ecosystem, A knowledge system that's  right in front of us holding all the answers waiting to be unlocked through the ability of knowing how to read landscapes again

I'm a friendly person with an open mind. I find it interesting to meet people with different life experiences and lifestyles. I like to learn from deep conversations that make me view from different perspectives, having both Black and White Australian hermitage from my parents, that at times in my younger years felt as if walking in-between two different worlds ,has differently shaped me into the person i am today establishing  the  connection and  care  for nature and the ocean  that  feels like I belong .

My house is 100m walk to Camel Rock beach and not far from Horse Head Rock and Wallaga lake (all three areas are in my profile photos) .All popular for photography, I also have a bush property  located in in the forest near a sacred mountain about a 30 minute drive from Wallaga Lake where I'm renovating an old school bus that soon will be my home ,  another beautiful area with lots of different wildlife, a freshwater river flows alongside the property that has a deep-water hole, great area for meditation or swimming , although water temp can be refreshing as its spring feed from a nearby mountain,
I've been lucky throughout my and I’m grateful for what life has given me, I’m happy to share this with travellers who appreciate and respect the beauty of nature and Indigenous Australian cultural

I’ve lived near the ocean for most of my life and I'm comfortable at reading and knowing the ocean.  If surfing or learning how to is a passion of yours then Camel Rock beach is a good all-round beach whether you're a beginner or an experienced surfer. For those who are familiar with surfing then camel rock can differently turn on now and then, at a bit over head height the water can get heavy so it can be a difficult paddle at times, being sand dependent and having a big tidal influence it often changes quickly which makes it difficult at times to read and can become frustrating at times but all around it’s a fairly consistent surf break being a beginner or more experience surfer. I, I enjoy exploring the coastline and all ocean activities, i hold a deep respect and appreciation towards the ocean as its taught me many things over the years and will continue too

I will always be respectful and create a comfortable safe space for workaway guest. I'm not the best at planning, organising or routine structures so daily chore list with certain number of hours can sometimes be not clearly communicated , I theses situation i like when guest take on incentive and find jobs that need doing as there are something that need to be done around the house, If you're a person who prefer a job list then let me know and we can work on planning a list together with your preferred skills
