Description
About our family and our area:
Hi there! We are Chris and Saphire, and we live on a spacious lifestyle property nestled in the beautiful, semi-rural community of Taupaki, North West Auckland. We both work full-time and have a lively, bustling household with three energetic young kids (our son is 6, and our daughters are 4 and 2), plus some friendly backyard chickens and sheep.
Before settling down here, Chris and I spent 12 years living and working in the UK, and we used that time to travel all over the world. Because of our own expat and backpacking days, we absolutely love the cultural exchange aspect of Workaway. We know exactly what it’s like to explore a new country, and we love hearing stories from other travellers and sharing a bit of our own Kiwi lifestyle in return.
What we love about our place is the space, the fresh country air, and the absolute peace at the end of a busy day. Our property has a classic, tranquil Kiwi rural vibe, but we are just an easy 25-minute drive from the heart of Auckland city.
If you love nature. We are right on the doorstep of the famous Kumeū wine region (packed with incredible boutique wineries and brewery gardens), a drive away from Woodhill Forest, and an easy drive to the rugged black sands and epic surf of Muriwai, Bethells and Piha beaches. Plus a quick trip across town to the beautiful calm bays of the North Shore.
Because we are juggling our careers, the kids' activities, and the general beautiful chaos of family life, our outdoor spaces need some love. We are looking for an independent, self-motivated Workawayer who wants a fantastic base to explore the region, enjoys getting their hands dirty, and doesn't mind the lively background of a young family! You will have your own peaceful accommodation outside the family home so plenty of privacy available.

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
As former expats who spent 12 years living in the UK and traveling the globe, we truly value the connections made while traveling. Workawayers are always welcome to join us for our family dinners, which is a great time to swap stories. On the weekends, we love getting out and about, and you are more than welcome to tag along with us to local farmers' markets, weekend sports, or day trips out to the rugged West Coast beaches like Muriwai, bays on the north shore or exploring a volcano around Auckland. Having grown up out here we are always happy to give you the "local's guide" to the best hikes, suggest places to go, and hidden gems in Auckland.
Skills and knowledge we can share outside of travel.
We have a wide range of interests and skills we’d be happy to share with you!
Career & Business: I work in corporate retail management for large global brands in the FMCG industry, and Chris is involved in both Sales and Marketing in the tech industry having worked for the likes of Microsoft, Nokia, Dell and currently at One New Zealand. If you are a younger traveller looking for career mentorship, CV advice, or a chat about the business world, we are always happy to help.
We are into health and fitness and love staying active as much as possible, outside of that at present a lot of our extra time is dedicated to our children.
Having spent so long overseas, we really miss the diversity of living abroad. By hosting Workawayers, we hope to bring a little bit of the wider world into our home for our three young kids to experience. We would love to hear about your home country, learn a few words of your language, and hear all about your travel adventures. If you enjoy cooking and ever want to share a traditional meal or recipe from your culture with us, that would be an absolute treat! Overall, we just love keeping our connection to the global travel community alive through the people we host.

Aide
We are primarily looking for an extra set of hands to help us get our property looking its best. The work is mostly physical outdoor maintenance. Tasks will include:
Weeding, mulching, and trimming hedges
Digging out an old garden bed
Digging up an existing path to relay some fresh gravel
Gardening & Landscaping
General Maintenance
DIY and building projects (optional, if you have the skills!)
Bonus projects: If you happen to be handy with tools or have some building experience, we would absolutely love to get a few new planter boxes built for our veggie garden and have our chicken fence extended! (No pressure if this isn't in your skillset, the gardening is the main priority).
We both work full time so we are looking for an independent worker, that can get on with the jobs during the day. Over the weekend post our childrens Saturday morning sports we are more available.

Hébergement
You will be staying in your very own private tiny home right here on our property so your own space to retreat to you whenever suits you! It’s a wonderful, cozy space with a beautiful deck that perfectly catches the evening sun—an ideal spot to relax with a cold drink after a few hours in the garden.
When it comes to food, we are entirely flexible and want you to feel comfortable. You are more than welcome to come up to the main house and join us for dinner. Since we both work full-time, weeknight meals are either a quick solution, a bulk meal that we can use two nights in a row and by Friday something simple so as we wind down—think quick, practical, and usually accompanied by the three little ones! Alternatively, if you prefer your own space and some peace and quiet at the end of the day to wind down, we are very happy to keep your tiny home fully stocked with groceries so you can cook for yourself, or you may choose to join us a few nights a week and do your own thing with the food provided the rest. Over the weekend we have more time for food and you will often find Chris on the BBQ, which is an excellent time to join in as the food is delicious.
Autres infos...
If you are wanting to explore New Zealand in general a car is very handy. You do have the option to Uber to bus/train stations to then travel on further from there.
We start our days early, but this will not disturb you as your tiny home is away from the main house so you can arrange your day as you like. As we are up so early to exercise and prepare for the day before the children wake we tend to head to bed around 8.30am/9.30pm.
There are plenty of beaches, nature walks, wineries/breweries in close proximity, and outside of peak traffic it is a quick 25 minute drive into the city.
