Description
Hello Everyone!
We are located in the beautiful mountains of the Cretan countryside and looking for motivated people to help us with various creative and ecological projects throughout the year.
There would be a variety of work to be done during a stay with us, so we would like to host positive and passionate people who are open to learning new skills in creating ceramics, helping us with some of our daily tasks, and experiencing Crete as a true local in our remote Village.
We are focused on maintaining Ancient Greek pottery processes and have over 40 years of experience in the field so we are excited to build connections with individuals from around the world to share our knowledge and have a meaningful exchange with.
We also have a large vineyard and olive groves that need care and help with throughout the year depending on the season, as well as a garden in the back of our home that we have many plans for.
The house is rustic and comfortable, built over 90 years ago and renovated over the past four decades. There are still various renovation and expansion projects in the home that we are working on and may be needing help with throughout the year.
For heating in the winter, we use wood, a fireplace and partly electric. There is a detached, spacious shared bedroom, and a cosy kitchen and bathroom that is shared with all of us. We expect people to be clean, respectful and to take part in the daily chores of life in the common areas. All food would be provided by us during your stay and we usually would share meals all together during lunch.
The location is around an hour away from the City Centre of Chania in the southwest part of Crete. It is a small Village which is virtually untouched by tourism, the people here are friendly, happy and welcoming to visitors. The setting of the area is beautiful and worth exploring, with unlimited trails, marked and unmarked, Big Gorges and a pebble beach that shores the Ionian Sea a 15-minute bus ride away over the late spring and summer time. Getting to the city for sightseeing and exploring is also easily accessible by bus and by car, as we regularly travel up and down to the City each week.
We look forward to speaking with you soon!Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

The location is great for a real cultural dive since it has not been exposed to tourism and seems to have been stuck in time. This gives visitors a true experience into the lives local Greek People live and in the way they have done for many generations. We have spent over 40 years researching Ancient Greek civilisations and history, especially when it comes to art and ceramics so we have a lot of knowledge to share.

We have a variety of ongoing projects, so we are never without work and are looking for people who are interested in making a difference and meaningfully helping us out.
Most of the daily tasks would be on learning and practising on some key daily ceramics tasks, helping in developing our teaching through feedback and building on our research for our future non-profit ceramics school.
At times, the work needed can become repetitive, but we find the various processes needed in pottery to be overall meditative and rewarding. Some other aspects of the work can be a bit more physically demanding and involve heavy lifting at times, but we make sure to assign tasks depending on abilities. Generally, working alongside us is always a fun atmosphere with fun music playing and getting our hands dirty.
Throughout the year, we also need help on different ecological work as we have a fruitful vineyard and many lands with olive trees and garden spaces, this could be with clearing out weeds in the lands, picking or stomping on grapes for our homemade wine, collecting olives etc. - we can share more details on these dependant on the time of visit.
Overall, the tasks that you will find here are versatile, so it would make your stay interesting and knowledgeable, we make sure to take into account people's strengths and differences to assign projects in the best ways possible for everyone.
After working hours, we expect everyone to take a little time out of their day for their part of the daily chores in the common spaces and maintain a clean environment.Langues parlées

The accommodation provided is a spacious detached room beside the main house, which has one double bed and two single beds. There is closet and drawer space as well as a reading chair and side tables.
It would be a shared room and can host a maximum of 2-3 workawayers at a time. Alternatively, we also have a large private tent beside our garden area for anyone interested in being closer to nature or prefer more privacy.
The bathroom and kitchen are both shared with the rest of the house.
The house has a lot of outdoor space, big gardens and views of the surrounding mountains.Autres infos...
We drive to the city often and are happy to take you along to experience some sightseeing/beach hopping in the center of Chania on your days off, there are also regular buses between Chania & Sougia throughout the day which pass from our village. This bus can also take you to some beautiful Gorges, Beaches and other Villages around our location. Our village is remote with many scenic paths for hiking and connecting with nature. There is a a beautiful beach town called "Sougia" just a 15 minute drive from our house and we go like to visit there quite often, its a full pebble beach with crystal clear blue waters and beautiful sunsets, it also has lots of cafes, bars, small grocery shops and restaurants for a true experience of the food here. Big festivals, locally called 'Glendia' happen often since we live in an Orthodox Christian culture which celebrates name days and other religious holidays with big feasts and traditional music...Greek people are always finding a reason to enjoy life's sweet moments and we cant wait to share that with you!
