Description
Hello friends,
We are located in the mountains of the Cretan country side trying to maintain a little piece of wild Crete in the south west. Our ceramic business needs help all year round and we are looking for people interested in learning ceramics along with helping the work load. Those who already have skills in ceramics are also welcome to share and cooperate with us.
We work mainly with plaster molds and a process called slip casting. Designing and creating models for the mold is also part of the creation and is something we love to see in people...but for new comers we start with the basics and work up to the next level. Again, we are looking for people with real interest in learning and sharing.
The house is large and roomy, built 90 years ago, built of stone and kept in a traditional state. In the winter we use wood heating and partly electric. As helpers we would expect people to be clean and respectful and just take part in the daily chores of life. A period of two weeks should be expected to have a sense of personality and environment. Individuals with photography, computer, promotion, and digital design are also of importance.
The location of the studio is a remote and pristine part of south west Crete. Virtually untouched by tourism the people here are happy and committed to the community. The natural settings of the area are breathtaking and should be explored. With unlimited trails, marked and unmarked, one has a unique experience with real wild nature. Getting to the closest city is available easily by bus as well as with us as we often need to go to Chania.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

The location is great for a real cultural dive since it has not been ruined of cheap tourism and seems to have been stuck in time. This gives visitors a true reality check into the lives of those who really live here in the way they did for many generations.

We have so many different things going on here that we are never without work. This makes things interesting for visitors because you get a variety of experience. Our main income is from our ceramics studio just below the house. This is something very important, being our bread and butter, and helping in the studio is a great way to learn new skills for visitors.

My mother language is English and from 30 years living in Greece I have a good vocabulary to share with others. I also have a lot of fun learning special words from other languages.Hébergement
The accommodation is a private room just off the main house. The bathroom is big but for now is shared with the rest of the house....(we are hoping to get that fixed soon!!) :) The house in general has a lot of out side space and we live in a beautiful traditional village not far from the beach Sougia. Cooking and cleaning the space are important jobs generally.
Autres infos...
We go to the city often for business reasons, but there are buses and other near by villages with local kafeneons for the real deal. Parties, locally called 'Glendi' happen often since we life in an Orthodox culture celebrating name days....Greek people are always finding a reason to enjoy life's sweet moments!
