Here at our farm we follow Bio Cyclical growth and living, by respecting the environment and protecting the biodiversity. We are a small olive grove at the foothills of Hymettus mountain, 30km away from Athens city center, and we live peacefully with our 11 chicken, 5 dogs 2 donkeys 2 ducks, and 1 cat. We also mainly eat vegetarian, we may have permanent staff who will want to eat fish or meat; we ask people who are not vegetarian to be thrifty with meat/fish consumption, and in any event to consume it with gratitude and respect.
Elisavet, the owner of the farm, is an art-dealer, so art is in everything we do; it is important for us to work with love and care while we try to exert the qualities of our silver medal award olive oil (regarding its content in polyphenols- CYCλOS -- olive oil 510gr/1L, + E.U. Health Claim); we strive to be exemplary, and thus able to add value to what we do and are about ;)
Observation is also one of our important key words!
Though the activity is still at its beginning, many things have been done or are in progress, and we have plenty of other projects for the future. We plan to build a new vegetable garden, using companion planting (for biodiversity and pest control), compost (with our kitchen wastes, chicken + donkey manure and grass cuttings), natural protection against harmful insects and diseases, and collecting and saving of seeds. To that end, we need to connect our irrigation system because, whilst we do not irrigate the olive trees, we need to water our vegetable garden and our fence trees and plants in order to stimulate their growth.
The olive grove produces xx fine virgin olive oil and the trees are looked after according to instruction by ΔΗΩ, our Certifying Controller Agency.
The place had not been used for a long time so now it needs some adjustments, like adding storing sheds and stables for the donkeys (in progress), painting shutters, fixing things…
Therefore, if you feel like you can bring something to what we do, and that we can contribute to your learning process in a sharing and caring connection, we would be glad to hear from you. We welcome volunteers from all over the world and a good common ground of understanding is important.
*** Please before writing to us, kindly take SERIOUS note on the following regarding COVID-19 as it looks very much likely that COVID 19 IS NOT HARMLESS, even if only mildly infected ***
Since 1st of July 2020, Greece welcomes travelers from EU; special measures had been slowly reduced.
However, vigilance was still necessary, unfortunately the deterioration of the situation has led to new restrictive actions, and now, as of Saturday November 7th, the country is under a new lock-down.
We are committed to continue our cycle, and would welcome anyone interested to help us here on the farm but we kindly ask workawayers to acknowledge that if they are here, they are to 'socialize' according to public health recommendations by the Greek Ministry of Social Health with no alternative theory and/or interpretation.
That is to say, we are VERY SERIOUS about
a. respecting social distancing (stay at at least one meter and a half away from each other),
b. following daily hygiene and sanitary disinfection protocols and
c. wearing masks everywhere outside the farm.
In any event, we do not like it at all if our guests want to take time off in Athens: alongside with Thessaloniki, it is rising in numbers of infected people by the day(!) - so, we will have to say ''No'' to any unnecessary local traveling; if you are to come here you have to be comfortable with a strict and organized timetable, and nevertheless spend your free/leisure time here in the country; one would have thought that it is after all our great comparative advantage, to remain corona-free and healthy..
Every other (strict or less strict) new instruction announced by the Greek Ministry of Social Health will be followed by the book with no exception, and will not be contested on any philosophical, ideological or for that matter, other type of grounds.
The best way to deal with the virus is with gratitude that we are not infected, with gratitude that we still have food and shelter; it is advised to pretend we are carriers even though we may not be, and therefore, are careful not to pass it on. We surely don't like the situation ourselves, but it is just how things still are for the moment, so we kindly ask you to be considerate and practice "tight" rather than "relaxed" behavior.
Because all of the above, we will no more host “come and go” workawayers. People coming here will have to be able to commit themselves for at least a full period of 1 month, appreciate our efforts, care, and in the end help us with what we are indeed all about.
Last but not least, at this stage, we prefer workawayers with W/Away Feedback comments by other W/Away hosts, and recommend that you, also, please read our feedback- especially the notes by w/awayers who have given us less rather than more, "stars" ;)
Thank you very much for your kind cooperation.

The farm is located next to Paiania, at the foothills of Hymettus mountain, where you can enjoy great hikes. Also, Athens is accessible by public transport from the farm and there are many archaeological sites nearby, like Cape Sounion (the temple of Poseidon), the temple of Artemis in Vravrona, and nice places to visit: Marathon, Rafina, Porto Rafti, etc.
Here you can learn about biocyclical agriculture and the process of producing high quality olive oil.
You will also learn how to take care of the animals and to listen to their needs. You might even be able to attend dog training lessons with professionals.
And of course, you will learn how to cook very nice (vegetarian/vegan) Greek dishes!
We are looking for volunteers to help us with the maintenance of the place (minor repairs, cleaning of the outdoor areas and taking care of the plants) and the routine of the farm (feeding the animals and cleaning their space).
Animals are early risers, so they also expect you to be one! We usually work at sunrise for the morning routine and at sunset we close the farm with the evening routine. In between we will help you plan other activities and your free time.
Please, if you have special skills and have any idea of how you could help us, that we didn’t think about, don’t hesitate to tell us. We also like it if, upon your application for staying with us, you ask questions regarding all the above.
In our view, sincere learners need at least a month to understand and to adapt to what we are about; the observation of nature is necessary in order to understand it, you will need to devote time in order to serve nature before it serves you; here, and regardless of your character, ideas and views, it is essential that you try not to "know better", to try not to lead but to follow, here nature is not to be taken for granted.
