Description
My husband and I live on an old 85 acre homestead in North Smithfield, RI. The property was established in the early 1900's and was a working dairy farm for many years. The property consists of the main farmhouse, the old free-stall cow barn (no longer houses animals but is used for small events), garage/workshop, outdoor kitchen/patio, garden/orchard/vineyard, chicken coop, and 6' stock tank pool. My husband and I have lived here for over 10 years and have two beautiful daughters (Flora 3 & Piper 16mo). For the first 5 years we were on the property we hosted for Workaway and WWOOF. We love sharing our property and meals with people from all over the world and we finally feel like we're ready to host once again!
Brendan & Cate
Brendan works for Proclamation Ales as Operations Mananger. He is super knowledgeable about brewing and the beer industry in general. He's a jack of all trades and with the right motivation and fix just about anything. He has recently taken up fly fishing, which has quickly become a favorite hobby. Most Sundays he spends out on the water fishing for Trout or advocating for different conservation efforts. He's passionate about native species, habitat restoration, forest management and improved waterways.
Cate is 5th generation at her family's business and oversees Food Operations. Her family runs a dairy farm, bakery and creamery that specializes in cow to customer. Cate is responsible for making sure all the product is made to meet customer demand and uphold quality standards. The farm is only a 5 minute drive away from the homestead and most of the pasture at our property is used to grow feed for the cows. Cate loves food from field to fork! Growing the food, harvesting it, cooking it and sharing it with other people.
We are hardworking fun loving individuals who like to travel (but can't as much with the kids) and meet new people.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
We live a very alternative lifestyle compared to many Americans. We like to live simply and work hard to make our home a special place. We have traveled to many different places and stayed with host families and really love the experience. We're looking to give back by providing a similar experience to other travelers. It's also difficult to travel when you have a homestead. We find hosting allows us to get a glimpse into other cultures without having to go anywhere.

Autres infos...
Our property abuts conservation land with many trails for hiking and exploring. Our town is pretty suburban, but we are very close to Providence, which is a great little city. We are also about an hour from Boston and 3 hours from NYC, which are great weekend trips. Rhode Island also has many beautiful beaches. There is a bus system that serves most of Rhode Island. We are happy to drop volunteers off in Providence at the train station, bus station or airport.
