Description
Hello all -
My name is Chi and I am building a home in the state of Oaxaca, about 30 mins drive outside the city center of Oaxaca de Juárez in a town called San Agustín ETLA.
By October 31st, 2026, the house will be relatively finished, however the remaining touches will be left to me to do. These things include but are not limited to:
- designing the garden(s)
- painting the rooms and furnishings
- creating different diy concrete furniture for the kitchen
- planting trees and flowers in the front yard
- designing the patio with bricks
- creating a walking pathway from the street to the house
- possible carpentry projects, creating shelving for the kitchen
Many parts of the house, like the bathroom and kitchen, will be in use but will still need some work to make it more complete (ie. Adding more furnishings, decorations, paint, etc.) I am looking for a workawayer to stay MAXIMUM one month and be able to commit to 3-4 hours a day of helping me with the various diy projects mentioned above. If all goes well with the projects, there may be an option to stay longer than one month but that is to be determined after a month has passed. Couples are allowed.
I am open to collaborating with individuals who are creative and don't mind getting their hands a little dirty. -

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
Although from the US, I am fluent in Spanish (I have a degree in Spanish) and after having lived in Mexico since 2021, I can easily assist anyone who is seeking to understand the language better.
Workawayers will also have the opportunity learn a great deal about what it is like to live in a Oaxacan community and how all the pieces and individuals move together. The town is small but in a great area where all are friendly and helpful and look out for one another.
Additionally, by collaborating with me and local Oaxacan contractors on the home I am building, travellers will learn different skills in gardening, construction, carpentry, and interior design.
I hope to learn a great deal about where you come from and am open to being taught any new skills that I may not already know. What we know is only a drop, what we don't know, an ocean! -

I'd love to learn Portuguese, Arabic, Italian or any other language. I am open! I am fluent in both Spanish and English and can help you learn either :) -
Hébergement
There is one bedroom available for a single person or a couple and it has a couch as well in case you need extra sleeping space. There is one bathroom that will be shared by all volunteer work-awayers. We will all be responsible for cleaning shared and private spaces.
Ingredients to make your own breakfast will be provided (eggs, oatmeal, bread, fruit, etc..), as I have a weird food schedule and don't always feel like cooking in the morning, so I want workawayers to know they are free to use what I provide to make themselves breakfast.
As for lunch, that will be provided by me, whether prepared in-home or bought as take-out. You are welcome to help me prepare the food. Please let me know if you have any dietary restrictions (I don't), and I will do my best to accomodate.
As for dinner, that will be your responsibility and are encouraged to get something in the town or go to the city, unless we decide to all pitch in and share a dinner every now and then. :) -
Autres infos...
Work-awayers can easily get to the city via colectivo (about $30 pesos one way) if they want to explore Oaxaca City and participate in its various activities. There is so much to see in Oaxaca, and travellers will be encouraged to explore when they are not helping me with house projects.
RULES:
-absolutely NO smoking anywhere near or within 3 meters of the house. If you are a cigarette smoker, you must ensure that NO smoke is traveling into the house. I am extremely sensitive to smoke.
-NO parties
-NO guests (unless prior approved as a workawayer)
-NO dogs, only cats -
