Welcome to Our Historic Watermill in the Heart of the French Countryside!

Bonjour! We’re Paul and Mieke, and we’d love to welcome you to our little slice of paradise in Badassat, Château-Chervix. Nestled amidst 8 hectares of lush forest and meandering streams, our historic watermill is not just a home—it’s our dream come true.

We recently moved here to embrace a simpler, eco-friendly lifestyle, and we're pouring our hearts into restoring and nurturing this beautiful place. There's so much to do, and we'd be thrilled to have some helping hands to share in this adventure!

    A Bit About Us
Paul (born in 1960) and Mieke (born in 1965) are a friendly, easy-going couple with a passion for nature, sustainability, and good company. We have two lovable dogs—Mila, our energetic pup, and Henkie, our wise old soul—as well as two affectionate cats, Dikkie and Angel. They’re an integral part of our family and are always up for cuddles and playtime.

    What We’re Up To
Our days are filled with a variety of projects as we settle into our new home. We're not running a business or hosting paying guests; we're simply working to create a warm, welcoming environment where we—and those who join us—can enjoy the beauty of nature and the joys of simple living.

    How You Can Help
We’re looking for enthusiastic, hands-on individuals who'd like to join us in:

    🌱 Permaculture & Gardening
Vegetable Garden Revival: Our veggie patch needs some love! The soil is a bit stubborn, but with care and attention, we know it can flourish. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just keen to learn, we'd love your help planting, weeding, composting, and nurturing our garden back to health.

Greenhouse Fun: We have a greenhouse that's just waiting to be filled with seedlings and greenery. Come help us bring it to life!

Wildflower Wonderland: Assist us in planting native wildflowers to attract bees, butterflies, and other friendly pollinators. Let's make the garden buzz with life!

    🏡 Home Sweet Home
DIY & Maintenance: There's always a little something to fix or spruce up around the house. If you're handy with a paintbrush or enjoy small DIY projects, your skills would be much appreciated.

Making It Cozy: Help us unpack, organize, and add those personal touches that make a house a home.

    🐾 Animal Companions
Pet Lovers Welcome: Our dogs and cats adore attention! If you enjoy walks, playtime, and lots of cuddles, they'll be your best friends in no time.
🍳 Cultural Exchange & Good Times
We love meeting new people and sharing experiences. Mieke speaks Flemish and French, Paul speaks Dutch and some German, and we're both fluent in English. We're eager to improve our French and would be delighted to help you practice any of the languages we speak.

Cooking is a big part of our life, and we enjoy preparing meals together. Share your favorite recipes with us—we're always up for trying new dishes!

    Your Accommodation
You'll have a cozy private room with your own en-suite bathroom—a comfortable haven to rest and relax after a fulfilling day. If you prefer the great outdoors, we have plenty of space for campervans or tents, with all the necessary facilities and lots of privacy.

    What We Offer
Delicious Home-Cooked Meals: We prepare hearty meals and are happy to accommodate dietary preferences. Let's enjoy good food and great conversation around the dinner table.

Flexible Hours: We typically ask for about 4-5 hours of help per day, five days a week, but we're flexible and want to ensure you have plenty of time to explore and unwind.

Free Time Adventures: In your leisure time, wander through our forest trails, read by the stream, or simply soak up the tranquility of the countryside.

    Why Join Us?
This is more than just a work exchange—it's an opportunity to be part of our journey as we breathe new life into this charming old mill. You'll gain hands-on experience in gardening, sustainable living, and home improvement, all while enjoying the peace and beauty of rural France.

    Getting Here
We're nestled in a serene rural area. While having your own transportation can be handy, it's not essential. We're happy to arrange pickups from the nearest train station (Limoges Benedictins, about 25 minutes away).

    Ready to Join the Adventure?
If you're someone who loves nature, enjoys a good laugh, and isn't afraid to get your hands dirty, we'd love to hear from you! Send us a message telling us a bit about yourself, your interests, and when you'd like to come. Let's make some wonderful memories together!

We can't wait to welcome you into our home and share this exciting journey. À bientôt!

Cultural Exchange & Language Learning Opportunities

One of the most rewarding aspects of staying with us is the chance to immerse yourself in a rich tapestry of languages and cultures. Mieke is Flemish and speaks French fluently, while Paul is Dutch with an intermediate grasp of German. Both of us are fluent in English, and we're enthusiastic about improving our French. If you're a native French speaker or simply enjoy practicing languages, our home offers plenty of opportunities for mutual learning and exchange.

Whether you're a language beginner or a seasoned polyglot, we can practice English, Dutch, French, or even some German together in a relaxed and supportive environment. Mieke is delighted to help you with your French, and Paul can assist with Dutch and German. We're both eager to practice and improve our French skills, so conversations often flow naturally between different languages. This dynamic creates a vibrant linguistic experience where learning feels effortless and enjoyable.

But our cultural exchange goes beyond just language. You'll be welcomed into a blend of Belgian, Dutch, and French cultures. We love sharing stories from our backgrounds, discussing traditions, exploring each other's cuisines, and exchanging life experiences. Whether it's cooking traditional meals together, celebrating local festivals, or simply chatting over a cup of coffee, there's always something new and exciting to discover. You might find yourself learning how to prepare a Flemish stew, understanding Dutch biking culture, or exploring the art of French pâtisserie.

By joining us, you'll not only enhance your language skills but also gain deeper insights into different ways of life. It's a fantastic opportunity to broaden your horizons, challenge your perspectives, and build meaningful connections. We believe that cultural exchange enriches everyone involved, fostering understanding and friendship across borders.

So, if you're a language enthusiast, a culture buff, or simply curious about living in a multicultural environment, we offer a unique, fun, and enriching experience. Come share your stories, teach us about your culture, and become a part of our international family. We can't wait to learn with you!

Help us develop a natural water filtration system to keep our water clean, energized and sustainable. Great for anyone interested in environmental science or just wanting to learn something new.

Internet Access: While we encourage enjoying the natural surroundings, we understand the need to stay connected. Wi-Fi is available throughout the main living areas for your convenience.

Outdoor Spaces: The property boasts beautiful outdoor areas, including gardens, a terrace, and spots by the mill stream. These are perfect for meditation, reading, yoga, or enjoying a cup of tea amidst nature. The ample space ensures you can find your own quiet corner when you need some personal time.

    What to Bring
Work Clothes: Bring clothes you don't mind getting a bit dirty, as well as sturdy shoes or boots suitable for outdoor work, and maybe a hat for sun protection.

Weather Gear: A waterproof jacket and warm layers are recommended, as the weather can be variable. We enjoy outdoor activities rain or shine!

    Additional Information
Length of Stay: We prefer volunteers who can stay for at least two weeks, as it allows us to get to know each other and work more effectively on projects. Longer stays are even better and allow you to see the progress of your contributions!

Transportation: We're somewhat remote, so having your own transportation is helpful but not necessary. We can arrange pickups from the nearest train station and offer occasional trips into town for supplies or a bit of sightseeing.

Pets: As mentioned, we have two dogs—Mila and Henkie—and two cats, Dikkie and Angel. They're friendly and love company, but if you have allergies, please consider this. Also bringing dogs onto the property is an option, but only if trained well. This is a strict condition, to ensure the health and safety of our furry friends.

Smoking and Alcohol: Smoking is permitted outdoors only. We enjoy wine with dinner but prefer to keep a relaxed and respectful environment.

Environmentally Conscious Living: We strive to live sustainably. We encourage mindfulness about water and energy use, recycling, and using eco-friendly products whenever possible. Your participation in these practices is greatly appreciated, as all grey-water re-enters the gardens.

We aim to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Whether you stay in a private en-suite room, the guesthouse, or prefer the adventure of camping with your campervan or tent, you'll find a welcoming environment with plenty of privacy and the beauty of nature all around.

Our home is your home, and we're excited to share this space with you. If you have any specific needs or questions about the accommodation, please don't hesitate to ask!
