Description
We are currently looking for (long-term) volunteers to help us with life on our homestead. We are four adults, our little 2-year-old, two dogs, one cat and some chickens, living together off-grid in the middle of the forest. At the moment, we also usually have one to three Workawayers staying with us.
We like living close to nature and having a simple life. We are working on different things around the land, the garden, the animals and the house, so there is always something to do.
We are happy to meet people from different places and share our everyday life with them. If you like nature, animals, getting your hands dirty and living a bit differently, you will probably fit in well here. -

Aide
We are looking for people to help us at our homestead. We grow a lot of our own food and preserve it for the winter. We are also renovating an old granite building on our land.
The work changes with the seasons, so there is always something different to do.
We are especially looking for allrounders who like gardening and DIY. You don't need much experience. It is more important that you are motivated, practical and willing to learn.
There is garden work like planting, harvesting, taking care of the beds and trees. We also have building and renovation work, firewood, mushrooms, food preservation and general work around the land (strimming, mowing).
We are also looking for someone who enjoys keeping things running around the homestead, like cooking, baking, laundry, harvesting, preserving food and keeping the common spaces clean and welcoming.
We are looking mainly for people who want to stay for at least 4 weeks. But if you want to stay shorter, please send us a message anyway. Depending on the time and our availability, we can usually find a way. -

Hébergement
We offer each volunteer or couple/pair a cozy private cabin with a big bed and basic facilities. Each cabin has its own private toilet and outdoor seating area.
You also have access to our shared kitchen and community space, which is well stocked and open for everyone to use. -
Autres infos...
You can cook your meals whenever you like in our shared community kitchen. The kitchen is well equipped and there is plenty of space to cook together or make your own food.
We always have basic food for everyday cooking and breakfast, like rice, pasta, flour, oats, spices, oil and other staples. We also have fresh herbs and, depending on the season, vegetables and fruit from our garden.
We grow and preserve a lot of our own food, so you can also learn about things like harvesting, making juice, fermentation and food preservation. Sometimes we cook and eat together, but you are always free to cook for yourself.
The last 2 km to the homestead are on a dirt road.
The closest bus stop and small shop are about a 25-minute walk away. There is affordable public transport, electric bikes, and we also give lifts to the nearest village every day. So it is possible to get around without a car.
Viseu has good connections to Porto, Lisbon and Spain. -

Possibilité d'accueillir les animaux
We have chickens, dogs and a cat so it’s important to think about how your pet would get along with them.
