    Description

Hello, I am Linde (73) living on the eco farm with Waldie(85). Our son Sandy (36) is striving to make us a more or less self sustainable Bed & Breakfast (we can host 14 guests in 6 rooms), 50 km from the capital of Suriname : Paramaribo (one hour drive). I am very energetic at my age and love to help Sandy. But that is not enough. Basic chores need to be done and extra help is needed beside Romeo, Giorgio and Sharita, our local aids.

WE LOVE TO SHARE OUR PLACE TO THE MAX with guests, tourists and locals. The farm is located at the Tiigerkreek, a small natural stream in the district of Saramacca, swimmingpool in the neighbourhood, 2 bicycles available and a small car to rent. We have 2 hectares with 250 citrustrees (oranges and limons), vegetable garden and all kinds of products like maniok, tayer, avocado, mango etc. For workaway friends we have a room in the main house available, sometimes they can be asked to share their room if necessary. The workawayers can also be asked to stay in the small house, opposite the main house. The tropical climate is awesome, sunshine all year round and minimum 20*C max 38.

It is a small family bussiness, basically Waldie, Linde and Sandy. We have two man working for us and a parttime lady for household affairs. Needless to say we need more help for the maintenance of house (strong woman), field, trees (strong able man), veggy garden (dedicated and experienced man or woman) and upgrading of the little house by carpenter. Also we run a project with bananafiber (see facebook Gobanasuriname) and we provide 16 women extra income. In 2020 we started an education project: circular economy to ban plastics. In 2024 we also implement a project in the hinterland providing locals with extra income by making and selling products made of bananafiber and collected plastics.

We have 4 lovely dogs to love and protect us and two super cats. We offer you accomodation and kitchen with basic apparatus and kitchenware and tools. We made a protocal together with workawayers to get you instantly informed about daily activities and chores. Please ask for it! Driverslicense comes in handy occasionally! We love Suriname, we can help you to explore the beautiful country by advising trips. Language: dutch, english.

We would like you to help 5 days for 5 hours a day, we provide basic needs in terms of housing, electricity, water and gas, all utilities and bedsheets etc. In the workaway kitchen you prepare your own meals, ingredients are paid for by the host. Our garden provides you with fruits and various vegetables. You cook for yourself and sometimes we share meals together. Public busses drive to town regularly.

Suriname is an interesting country because you find many diverse cultures brought here from colonial times and living together peacefully. Their languages, music, food, way of living is still authentic for you to enjoy. More than 80% of the country is forest. The most green country in the world! Needless to say the biodiversity is stunning and traveling the rivers to visite inland villages and its inhabitants is a true adventure. More and more the benefits of the biodiversity in plants and herbs for medicin is recognized and used. Next year is election year and you can learn about politics and social movement. Also oil has been found recently offshore like in Guyana, which will change the country and its perspectives for the future, hopefully in a positive way. Suriname has a lot of freedom in all respects: building, agriculture, ict, all enterprise, everything is possible. Lots of small enterprises and positive projects going on. Everybody wants to be their own boss! Of course thats why it is hard to find reliable and able workers that speak dutch or english.

Unique is our nature around the house: lots of birds, mammals in the wild tresspass our property for us to enjoy. When you love nature, this is your place to be! With yearround planting a place you never want to leave. We like to share all whats going on with you so you can benefit from your stay from any point of interest. Your hosts , "retired from careers" have a long time experience of work in Suriname as well as in the Netherlands and are able to reflect on events from both perspectives in intellectual discourse. We are active in contributing in social and educational progress by our projects. For example in 2019 we initiated the use of bananafiber, which is a wasteproduct from bananaplantations. Women earn money now by making products like bags, mats, etc. from this beautiful natural fiber. See facebook: Gobanasuriname. This project was continued with an additional school project in 2020. The focus is on refuse and reduse plastics. Also workshops are offered to tourists and schools to learn all about bananafiber and the possibilities. We are unique in the sense that tourists and you are "living with us and our B&B guests". We are so to say a friendly small "community", open to eachothers needs and abilities to share and develop. We also want to learn from your experiences and skills.

With your time off there is hardly efficient public transportation to town (Paramaribo) which is an adventure in itself by meeting people and exploring places like markets, historic sites, cultural events etc. On request we rent out our car for workawayers. We also have 2 bicycles for rides to the shops and for recreational use.
In our neighbourhood you can meet locals who are friendly and can show you many things and share their hospitality.
Green Heritage Fund Suriname has a sanctuary for sloths which is very interesting. Nearby Coppenameriver holds a historic site with exhibition at Batavia (former lepercolony) and a little further upstream you can visit befriended folks from indigenous Kalebaskreek which is a very charming trip.
