Description
Welcome to our family in Getafe, near Madrid!
Hi! We are a friendly family of four living in Getafe, a pleasant city just 16 km south of the centre of Madrid, with excellent public transport connections.
Our family is made up of Julio (46), Elena (44), and our two children: Erai (10) and Kala (6).
Both of us are secondary school teachers, and we also share a very special passion: magic. We have been performing professionally for many years, and this season you can even find us on stage at Madrid's Teatro Fígaro with our new show, Próxima Parada: Magia Majara. If you enjoy theatre, creativity or magic, you'll probably find life in our home quite entertaining!
Our main reason for joining Workaway is to improve our English and help our children become confident speaking it naturally in everyday situations. We are especially interested in hosting native English speakers, as this gives our family the best opportunity for full language immersion. However, we are also happy to welcome people with an excellent level of English who enjoy communicating naturally and confidently.
We are not looking for formal English lessons. What we value most is sharing everyday life together: talking during meals, playing games, cooking, going out, and simply speaking English as part of our daily routine. We believe this is the most enjoyable and effective way for all of us to learn.
We live in a comfortable semi-detached house with a private patio, in a quiet residential area. Madrid city centre is easy to reach by train or metro, so you'll be able to enjoy everything the capital has to offer while also experiencing everyday life with a Spanish family.
Our weekdays
From Monday to Friday, the four of us leave home in the morning for school. We usually return home around 3:00 pm, while the children finish school at 4:30 pm.
During the afternoons, the children often have extracurricular activities. Our eldest son, Erai, is passionate about basketball and trains three afternoons a week, so family life can be quite active! The rest of the afternoon is usually spent doing homework, playing, chatting, having dinner together and, from time to time, preparing our magic performances.
Weekends
Weekends are always a little different. Sometimes we enjoy relaxing family time at home or exploring Madrid and the surrounding area. Other weekends we perform in theatres or at private events. If you're interested, you'll have the chance to discover what life is like behind the scenes of a professional magic show - and perhaps even learn a few tricks!
We are looking for someone who is friendly, open-minded and enjoys family life. If you like children, cultural exchange and would enjoy sharing your language and culture while experiencing authentic Spanish life, we would be delighted to welcome you into our home.
We hope to meet you soon! -

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
We believe the best way to experience a country is by becoming part of a local family. By staying with us, you'll discover everyday Spanish life, traditions and customs—not as a tourist, but as one of the family.
As both of us are secondary school teachers, you'll get a glimpse of the Spanish education system and our daily routine. And because we're also professional magicians, you'll discover a rather unusual side of our lives! This season we're performing our family show Próxima Parada: Magia Majara at Teatro Fígaro in Madrid, so, depending on the dates, you might even have the chance to see what happens behind the scenes of a professional theatre production. If you're curious about magic, we'd be delighted to teach you a few tricks to amaze your own friends and family.
Our children are active and sociable, so family life is full of games, conversations and laughter. We hope you'll feel at home with us and enjoy a genuine cultural exchange where we all learn from one another. -

The most important thing for us is sharing everyday life in English. We would love our Workawayer to become part of our family, speaking English naturally with both adults and children during meals, games and daily activities.
We also appreciate some help with the children, such as playing with them, reading stories, doing crafts, or accompanying us to the park or to their extracurricular activities.
As part of family life, we also ask for a little help with light household tasks, such as setting the table, emptying the dishwasher, preparing simple meals together or helping to keep shared spaces tidy. We don't expect heavy cleaning or any professional housekeeping.
Our goal is a genuine cultural exchange where everyone enjoys learning from each other. -

Hébergement
You will have your own private bedroom with a comfortable 105 × 190 cm bed and a window overlooking our sunny patio. You'll also have access to a quiet home office upstairs, which you are welcome to use for working, studying or simply relaxing during most of the day.
You'll be welcome to use all the shared areas of the house, including the bathrooms, kitchen, living room and patio, just like any member of the family.
All meals shared with the family are, of course, included. We usually eat together, and we'd love you to join us whenever you're at home, as we think mealtimes are one of the best opportunities to chat, practise English and enjoy the cultural exchange. -
Autres infos...
Weekends are completely free, giving you plenty of time to explore on your own or join us if we have family plans. We love spending time together, but we also fully respect your independence, so you're always free to do whatever you prefer.
Getafe has excellent public transport connections. You can reach the centre of Madrid in around 20–30 minutes by train or metro, making it easy to discover one of Europe's most exciting cities, with its museums, parks, historic neighbourhoods, nightlife and cultural events.
Closer to home, you'll find plenty of shops, cafés, restaurants, sports facilities and parks within walking distance. We also have a sunny private patio where you can relax, read or simply enjoy the good weather.
If you'd like, we'd be happy to recommend places to visit, hidden gems around Madrid, or even invite you to join us on family outings whenever possible. Above all, we hope you'll feel at home with us and leave with great memories and perhaps even a few magic tricks to take back home! -
