Aloha! We are 3 passionate humans (Whit, Winnie & Jakke) looking to contribute to monumental shifts in the way we do the human experience. Top of our list is agriculture, education, movement (yoga), entrepreneurship, community building and showing up as our best selves. We are currently accepting applicants who are 21 and up.
We are located on a 300 acre conservation easement in the Central Valley of Maui, Hawaii. Our 10 acre project serves as a community education farm. The easement is positioned on former conventionally farmed sugar cane and pineapple lands. Our primary focus is to restore the microbiome of the land, returning critical microbial life back into the soil. This ensures our crops are not only nutritionally dense but are grown while regenerating a depleted ecosystem. Healthy soil = healthy humans!
We grow a variety of crops including taro, turmeric, sugarcane, banana, mango, papaya, coconuts, and breadfruit as well as several native teas and herbs. Other areas of focus include composting, compost tea, vermicomposting, The Soil Food Web and Permaculture. We are also passionate about natural / up-cycled construction including adobe, bottle brick and rammed earth tire architecture.
Workawayers will gain a unique perspective on regenerative farming practices, soil health and hopefully leave feeling inspired to continue contributing to a positive planetary future.
We have space to set up a tent (we can provide one if you do not have), an outdoor shower with hot water, a porta potty and a full kitchen. We all have hospitality backgrounds and strive to make our accommodations comfortable.
We are looking for 6 hours / day on working days and typically work 4 days per week. We mainly need help with weeding & mulching! Other areas we occasionally need assistance in are planting, harvesting and special projects. This will be the majority of what we are looking for help in so please be super inspired to help with these more physically/mentally demanding tasks. Although not glamorous, I crucial part of regen ag.
We also have several other projects that we will be focusing on this year including launching our education and food tour, building our online presence, further developing community engagement, a soil advocacy program, hosting indigenous Hawaiian cultural events and developing regenerative curriculums.
If you are interested in participating in the organic farming and the regenerative movement, this is an excellent opportunity.
We do want to stress, that we are in the infancy of our project and need folks that thrive in the start-up type environment. Lastly, the farm is beautiful and magical but also very WINDY & HOT. If you are still super jazzed please send us a detailed message of your intentions and include any relevant experience to our community education farming project.
