Description
Hi! Sabaidee!
We are a veggie cafe and social enterprise, raising funds to help cats in Laos. We are looking for nice, kind and independent people to help us with a few different things. Keywords: photography, graphic design, teaching English, Tiktok.
*Before you continue reading, please note that we are NOT a traditional cat cafe with a room full of cats. Our cats are just our own cats who are free to come and go as they please, the cafe is their home and we live there as well.
Please do NOT message us:
-if you don't have a specific skill listed below in the help section
-offering cat sitting/cuddling/care, we do NOT need this
-if the calendar is marked red, it means no availability
-if you're allergic to cats and dogs
-outside of Workaway
We are an ethical cat cafe and we believe that no cat should have to suffer, and that take-away drinks should not be served in plastic. We are here to do good - for cats, people and our planet. This means we serve healthy and delicious food & drinks, use biodegradable take-away packaging and raise funds to help cats in need.
We're located right in the center of beautiful Luangprabang in northern Laos. Luangprabang is a UNESCO world heritage town and so it is a wonderful place if you're looking for a break from travelling, or if you want to use it as a hub for activities. For example, the Kuang Si Waterfalls are about 30km from here. There are ethical elephant tours, pottery classes, hiking opportunities, kayaking, swimming, yoga, etc etc, plenty of choice whether you're looking for active stuff, or want to take it easy.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

To start, living in a house will give you a different perspective of the town and the country in general than when you stay in tourist accommodation. Wake up early and you can see countless monks from the many temples around here go past quietly to collect alms, just outside our door. You might find your favourite local restaurant and practise your Lao language with the locals, or visit the temple and have a chat with the monks to learn about their lives whilst they practise their English skills with you. Plenty of opportunities to add a different dimension to your trip. And of course we are always available for advice on where to go and what to do!

During the months of May to August we are looking for:
- High quality photos/social media: We are looking for someone who could come for a few days with a good camera/phone to take nice pictures and videaos of the cats and our food & drinks for our marketing, menu and social media channels. We would especially like to get our Tiktok going (4 hours a day).
-Graphic/website design: we try our best with Canva, but to have someone help us develop education materials, infographics, menus, brochures etc etc would be fantastic. We can discuss what is needed. You'll have to have your own computer. (4 hours a day).
-English teaching: we are looking for someone who can teach 'hospitality English' to our staff (preferably someone with hospitality experience). Our team is young and shy, so we are looking for someone who can help them build confidence when interacting with customers. Ideally a mix between 'formal teaching' with some reading and writing exercises, as well as conversation practice.
Please note, we are not asking for help in the café itself. As a workawayer you will sleep above the café and you are welcome to spend as much time as you like, but we will not ask you to cook or serve food and drinks to our customers. We believe in fair pay for our staff and we will not replace paid local jobs with volunteers. However, we do love to meet people, share stories and learn from each other's experiences, so we hope we can offer a fair exchange of accommodation, food and coffee of course!Langues parlées

We offer a bedroom with double bed, en-suite bathroom, a fan (and optional aircon for a small fee).
We offer a place to stay and breakfast and lunch, which you can order from the menu, or make yourself from the ingredients in the fridge. Please note that there is no opportunity to cook dinner for yourself, but there are plenty of (cheap) food options nearby as we are in the middle of town.Autres infos...
We believe in kindness for all — humans, animals, and the planet. Our space is safe and welcoming to LGBTQ+ communities.
In Laos, good hygiene is expected. Please make sure to shower regularly, use deodorant if you need it, and wear shoes when outside (it's super rude to walk into a Lao house with dirty feet). You'll be sharing our house and we don't want to smell your armpits — nor do we want our customers to smell them when they're eating.Informations complémentaires

Our wifi is decent, it is ok for streaming, Netflix and youtube etc. Others have lived and worked here before who worked online, such as teacher, coach and software-developer. The bedroom has a desk and is quiet, so it can easily be used as an office space. The cafe itself gets customers who come and work here so that would also be an option. Other than that, we can direct you to other amazing places to work, from cafes with river view, to soft sofas in airconditioned bakeries.

Thanks to Maddie's warmth and friendliness some part of my heart will stay forever in Luang Prabang! During my visit there I could see how does the work in the cafe look like behind the scenes, try genuine local life(which was a priceless extra for me), meet&hang out with local people.… read more
Friendly, independent, funny and super helpful all around. She came to teach us a few vegan baking recipes and we can now make delicious treats thanks to her!
Thank you so much Marta, we would have you back any time :-)
She is a very kind, caring and funny person and didn't hesitate to jump in to help with things often, we didn't have to ask, she just noticed and took initiative.
The work she has done for us is fantastic and went… read more
