Description
We are a small family with roots in the countryside. Our relatives were among the first settlers in the area, pioneers who left us their traditions, which we are now trying to revive. We are not always in the countryside, as we also live in Coyhaique (the regional capital). However, we would like to devote more time to the countryside and share with volunteers as we move forward with this project. That is why we cordially invite you to join us in caring for our farm located in Chilean Patagonia.
This is a peaceful farm, located in the Aysén Region, near Cerro Castillo, which you can see from the window of the house. Here you can connect with nature, becoming one with it and completely disconnecting from city distractions. However, 7 km away is Villa Cerro Castillo, a small village where you can find all the basic services.
The house where the volunteers will probably stay dates back to the 1950s. It was originally built in the Las Ardillas area and was rebuilt maintaining its structure, with mortised wood (without nails) and axe-hewn planks.
The countryside has wet areas with Nirre forest, drier areas with lenga forest, a hill that offers a panoramic view of the area and Cerro Castillo, and shrubs such as calafate. You can also find herbs such as plantain, sarsaparilla, etc.
We have a small flock of sheep and alpacas that graze freely in the fields during the day and are brought in at night. We also have chickens that provide eggs for eating and selling, and some cows and/or calves and heifers.
During the summer, grass is cut to feed the animals. So far, I only grow garlic. It is an area with low temperatures, mainly in winter, and occasional frosts in October, November and also in February.
We also have other properties where there are more cows, which we occasionally go to see. On those occasions, we have to cross the Ibañez River on horseback.
In the future, we would like to work in tourism, perhaps camping for now, or maybe making some tinajas (clay pots), etc.
Somos una pequeña familia que tiene sus orígenes en el campo, nuestros familiares fueron de los primeros pobladores del sector, pioneros que nos dejaron sus tradiciones, que hoy tratamos de rescatar. No siempre estamos en el campo ya que también vivimos en Coyhaique (Capital Regional). Sin embargo, nos gustaría dedicarnos más al campo y compartir con los voluntarios mientras avanzamos en este proyecto. Es por esto, que los Invitamos cordialmente a unirse a nosotros para cuidar nuestro campo ubicado en la Patagonia Chilena.
Este es un campo tranquilo, ubicado en la Región de Aysén, en las cercanías del Cerro Castillo, el cual podrás observar desde la ventanta de la casa. Aquí podrás conectarte con la naturaleza, haciéndote uno con ella y desconectarte completamente de las distracciones citadinas. Sin embargo, a 7 km. se encuentra Villa Cerro Castillo , un pequeño poblado, donde se encuentran todos los servicios básicos.
La casa en la que probablemente se quedaran los voluntarios, es de la década del 50, inicialmente fue construida en el sector de las Ardillas y, se reconstruyó manteniendo su estructura, con palo amordazado -sin clavo- y tablones labrados a hacha.
El campo tiene terrenos húmedos con bosque de Nirre, terrenos más secos con bosque de lenga, un cerro que permite una vista panorámica del sector y al Cerro Castillo, hay arbustos como el calafate, encuentras hierbas como llantén, zarzaparrilla, etc.
Tenemos un pequeño rebaño de ovejas y alpacas que durante el día pastan libremente en el campo y se encierran por la tarde, también tenemos gallinas que proveen huevos para comer y vender, y algunas vacas y/o terneros/as, vaquillas.
Durante el verano se corta pasto para forrajear/ alimentar los animales, hasta ahora sólo siembro ajos, es una zona de temperaturas bajas principalmente en invierno y con heladas ocasionales en octubre, noviembre y también en febrero.
También contamos con otros predios donde hay más vacas, las cuales ocasionalmente se van a ver. En esas ocasiones hay que cruzar el Río Ibañez a caballo.
En un futuro, nos gustaría trabajar en turismo, puede ser camping por ahora, o quizás hacer unas tinajas, etc.

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
We are very interested in exchanging knowledge with volunteers. We are proud of our traditions and our life in Patagonia, so we would like travellers to get to know and learn about the "gaucho" culture, which is very present in our area.
Being in the countryside regularly, Isis and Mauricio are excited about this experience. They plan to use their free time to organise opportunities to teach and learn about culture and other things. Both practise basic Acroyoga, and Isis knows Italian, so language exchange classes could also be considered.
On the other hand, during their stay, volunteers could visit different tourist attractions. Nearby is the museum of the first rural school, the Cerro Castillo National Park where they could go trekking, etc. And, since we are right on the Austral Highway, it is a strategic location if they later wish to visit other wonderful places in Patagonia, such as Las Capillas de Marmol, Rio Baker, and the regional capital Coyhaique.
Estamos muy interesados en poder intercambiar conocimientos con los voluntarios, nos enorgullecen nuestras tradiciones y nuestra vida en la patagonia, por tanto nos gustaría que los viajeros pudiesen conocer y aprender de la cultura "gaucha", que está muy presente en nuestro sector.
Al estar en el campo regularmente, Isis y Mauricio están emocionados por esta experiencia, planean en el tiempo libre, organizar momentos para enseñar y aprender sobre la cultura y otras cosas. Ambos practican Acroyoga en nivel básico, Isis sabe italiano, por lo que también se puede conciderar el intercambio de clases de idiomas.
Por otro lado, en su estadía, los voluntarios podrían visitar distintos puntos turísticos. Aquí cerca, está el museo de la primera escuela rural, el Parque Nacional: Cerro Castillo donde podrían hacer trekking, etc. Y, ya que estamos justo en la carretera Austral, es un lugar estratégico, si posteriormente desean visitar otros lugares maravillosos de la patagonia, como Las Capillas de Marmol , Rio Baker, y la Capital Regional Coyhaique.

In the countryside, we always have many activities to do. These vary depending on the season, and some days can be harder than others.
Activities can include loading a truck with firewood, cleaning pens, moving animals, carpentry, etc.
However, the main tasks each day are feeding the chickens (twice a day), making sure none of them get lost, checking their nests and collecting their eggs. The sheep and alpacas must be released from their pen in the morning and collected from the field in the afternoon.
These and other tasks will be rotated or done together with my daughter Isis and her boyfriend Mauricio, who will be regularly in the countryside and with whom you will share the house.
En el campo siempre tenemos muchas actividades que realizar, estas varían dependiendo de la temporada y hay días que puede ser más duro.
Las actividades pueden ser cargar un camión con leña, limpiar corrales, mover animales, carpintería, etc.
Sin embargo, lo principal en un día, es alimentar a las gallinas (dos veces al día), cuidar que no se pierda ninguna, búscar sus nidos y recoger sus huevos. A las ovejas y alpacas, hay que liberarlas de su corral en la mañana e ir a buscarlas al campo por la tarde.
Estas y las otras labores se irán rotando o se harán junto a mi hija Isis y su novio Mauricio, quienes estarán regularmente en el campo y con quienes compartirán la casa.

Hébergement
Volunteers will probably stay in the same house where we live. As mentioned above, this is a rebuilt house with a rustic feel, so the furniture and facilities are in keeping with this style. There is no Wi-Fi or television, but there is electricity and cold water (and hot water for showers). If they wish, travellers can purchase a prepaid SIM card from Entel or another company, which will allow them to access the internet from their mobile phones.
The house has enough rooms for all the volunteers, who can have their own room or share with other volunteers, depending on availability.
Everyone is responsible for cleaning and looking after the house, and each person must ensure that their room is kept tidy.
With regard to food, basic foodstuffs will be provided, i.e. flour, pasta, rice, legumes, vegetables, fruit, etc., as well as what is necessary for three meals a day, which will always be discussed with travellers. They will also have gas and a wood-burning stove to cook whatever they wish.
Los voluntarios se quedarán probablemente en la misma casa donde vivimos, como ya se dijo esta es una casa reconstruida, su esencian es rústica, por tanto, sus muebles e instalaciones, son de este estílo. No hay wifi, ni televisión, sin embargo, hay electricidad, agua fria (y caliente para las duchas). Y, en caso de que deseen, los viajeros podrán contratar un chip prepago de Entel, u otra compañía con lo cual podrán contar con internet desde su telefono.
Es una casa con habitaciones suficientes para los voluntarios, donde podrían tener su habitación individual o compartirla con otros voluntarios dependiendo de la disponibilidad.
La limpieza y el cuidado de la casa dependerá de todos, y cada uno deberá velar por mantener el orden de sus habitaciones.
Respecto a la alimentación , se entregará la alimentación básica, es decir, harina, pastas, arroz, legumbres, verduras, frutas, etc. Así como lo necesario para las 3 comidas, lo cual será siempre conversado con los viajeros. También, contarán con gas y una estufa a leña para cocinar lo que deseen.
