    Description

We are dedicated to creating the first Women’s+ retreat center in Guyana, aiming to provide a space for relaxation, growth, and community development. Founded by Guyanese-born Menakshi and her cousins Shoba and Samantha, our mission is to integrate wellness and sustainability into our local and global communities.

    Workaway Program Overview:

Our Workaday program offers a unique opportunity to engage directly with our retreat and community projects. Volunteers are essential to our efforts, and your involvement will contribute to both the development of our retreat center and the empowerment of the local community.

    - Educational Workshops: Sessions on sustainability and cultural heritage.

Guyana, a unique country in South America, offers an enriching cultural experience for travelers. As the only English-speaking country on the continent, Guyana is known for its multicultural heritage, comprising Indian, African, Aboriginal, and Chinese influences. This diversity creates a vibrant tapestry of traditions, languages, and customs, providing travelers with a rich and immersive cultural exchange.

With relatively few tourists having visited Guyana, travelers have the opportunity to make a significant impact through their work and interactions. By volunteering here, they can actively contribute to the local community and witness the transformative power of their efforts firsthand. This authentic experience allows travelers to forge meaningful connections with the people of Guyana, gaining a deeper understanding of their way of life, traditions, and aspirations.

Moreover, Guyana boasts 80% untouched rainforest, offering unparalleled opportunities for trekking and exploration. Nature enthusiasts will be captivated by the breathtaking landscapes and wildlife that thrive in these pristine surroundings. Notably, Guyana is home to one of the world's largest single-drop waterfalls, an awe-inspiring natural wonder that provides an unforgettable adventure for travelers seeking outdoor experiences.

By immersing themselves in Guyana's rich culture, untouched nature, and diverse communities, travelers will not only create positive change but also gain a profound appreciation for the beauty and resilience of this hidden gem. It's an opportunity to embark on a transformative journey, broaden horizons, and make lasting memories in this extraordinary destination.

    Hébergement

Accommodations at our lodge are provided in the form of a shared safari tent with a single bed per volunteer or a camping tent. We also offer shared bathroom and shower facilities, ensuring a comfortable and convenient stay for our workawayers.

As a grassroots organization, we operate with limited resources, and providing meals free of charge at this time is not cost-effective for us. However, we welcome volunteers to join us and contribute to our cause. While volunteers are asked to provide their own meals, we offer an alternative option to make a donation to the organization to have meals covered. Each meal is priced at $2000 GYD ($10 USD) and follows a vegetarian menu.

The region surrounding is vibrant and offers various local amenities, including bars, restaurants, and shopping areas, and indigenous villages. However, what makes us truly special is our proximity to the natural forest and the stunning Caopey Lake. As a volunteer here, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty of the surrounding nature and enjoy the tranquility it offers.

We truly appreciate the understanding and support of our volunteers as we work together towards our shared goals. Your contributions, whether through donations or volunteering, are invaluable in helping us create positive change in the community. Together, we can make a meaningful difference

After arriving at the airport, volunteers will need to take a taxi ride to Parika. From there, they will embark on a boat ride to Essequibo coast, followed by an off-road taxi to the rear of Queenstown Village, where we are located. We are more than happy to assist in arranging transportation from the airport to our site. Simply let us know your travel details, and we will make the necessary arrangements.

Once at the village, getting around is convenient. Volunteers can choose to bike or take a taxi or mini-bus to explore the village and neighboring areas.

For transportation costs, please note that the taxi ride from the airport to the ferry costs $12,000 GYD ($60 USD). The ferry ride itself costs $500 GYD ($2.50 USD). Lastly, the taxi from the ferry to the site is priced at $4,000 GYD ($20 USD).

During your stay, you will have plenty of free time, and we are more than willing to organize trips to nearby lakes, resorts, markets, and other points of interest. We want to ensure that your experience is not only fulfilling but also allows you to explore the beauty and attractions of the surrounding area.
