    Description

This aims to be the very first Women's+ retreat center in Guyana. Our intention is to create a space to experience the beauty and adventure that Guyana has to offer, in an environment that centered on the wellbeing, enjoyment, and safety of all women and gender expansive individuals.

We recognize the need in Guyana for a gender-responsive approach to tourism, wellness and community programming. Our site is designed for guests to rest, replenish and grow in an environment that is free from discrimination.

Our programming focuses on sustainability and community development, and includes a local women’s group, community farm and agricultural education, professionally designed psychological and emotional healing workshops, skill-building, and wellness and cultural events.

With wellness retreat programming unlike anything else currently offered, we are poised to launch Guyana into the multi—billion dollar wellness tourism industry. It is time for the beautiful and regenerative ‘land of many waters’ to claim its place in this rapidly growing international arena.

    Who are we

This is an offshoot of a Canadian non-profit, founded by Guyanese born, and recently repatriated Menakshi and her two cousins Shoba and Samantha.

Accommodations at our lodge are provided in the form of a shared safari tent with a single bed per volunteer or a camping tent. We also offer shared bathroom and shower facilities, ensuring a comfortable and convenient stay for our workawayers.

As a grassroots organization, we operate with limited resources, and providing meals free of charge at this time is not cost-effective for us. However, we welcome volunteers to join us and contribute to our cause. While volunteers are asked to provide their own meals, we offer an alternative option to make a donation to the organization to have meals covered. Each meal is priced at $2000 GYD ($10 USD) and follows a vegetarian menu.

The region surrounding is vibrant and offers various local amenities, including bars, restaurants, and shopping areas. However, what makes us truly special is our proximity to the natural forest and the stunning Caopey Lake. As a volunteer here, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty of the surrounding nature and enjoy the tranquility it offers.

We truly appreciate the understanding and support of our volunteers as we work together towards our shared goals. Your contributions, whether through donations or volunteering, are invaluable in helping us create positive change in the community. Together, we can make a meaningful difference

After arriving at the airport, volunteers will need to take a taxi ride to Parika. From there, they will embark on a boat ride to Essequibo coast, followed by an off-road taxi to the rear of Queenstown Village, where we are located. We are more than happy to assist in arranging transportation from the airport to our site. Simply let us know your travel details, and we will make the necessary arrangements.

Once at the village, getting around is convenient. Volunteers can choose to bike or take a taxi or mini-bus to explore the village and neighboring areas.

For transportation costs, please note that the taxi ride from the airport to the ferry costs $12,000 GYD ($60 USD). The ferry ride itself costs $500 GYD ($2.50 USD). Lastly, the taxi from the ferry to the site is priced at $4,000 GYD ($20 USD).

During your stay, you will have plenty of free time, and we are more than willing to organize trips to nearby lakes, resorts, markets, and other points of interest. We want to ensure that your experience is not only fulfilling but also allows you to explore the beauty and attractions of the surrounding area.
