    Description

Hi, I’m Mickie, the caretaker and manager of the farm, an off-grid jungle sanctuary in the Savegre area of Costa Rica.

In 2021, I left the fast pace of city life behind and moved to Costa Rica to create a more peaceful, self-sustaining, and meaningful way of living. Since then, I’ve been working to regenerate this land through permaculture, food forests, natural building, and simple off-grid living in close connection with nature.

Our farm is a place for people who enjoy fresh air, meaningful projects, beautiful surroundings, and a slower rhythm of life. We are surrounded by jungle, rivers, waterfalls, wildlife, and edible plants, and we welcome volunteers who are genuinely excited to contribute to a growing land-based project.

We are especially happy to host mature, respectful, hands-on people who enjoy outdoor work, simple living, and being part of a peaceful environment. At the moment, we prefer volunteers aged 24 or older.

    Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre

This is a place where cultural exchange happens naturally through daily life, shared work, and conversations about farming, philosophy, nature, sustainability, and different ways of living.

You will have the chance to spend time with both Mickie and Mimo, our local Costa Rican team member, who works with us 5 days a week and has cared for this land for around a decade. Mimo planted the original food forest and brings valuable knowledge about local plants, traditional farming methods, and Costa Rican culture. Working alongside him is both educational and grounding.

Volunteers can learn about permaculture, regenerative farming, tropical food production, off-grid living, and practical problem-solving in a jungle environment. We sometimes also come across indigenous artifacts on the land, such as ancient grinding stones once used to prepare corn and grains, which is a beautiful reminder of the deep history of this place.

This experience is ideal for people who want more than just accommodation — it suits those who want to learn through doing, connect with the land, and share daily life in a real and meaningful way.

  • Aide

    Aide

We are looking for motivated, practical, and easygoing volunteers who enjoy working outdoors and do not mind getting their hands dirty.

In general, volunteer help may include building garden beds, planting trees and edible crops, maintaining and expanding the food forest, landscaping, light maintenance, caring for animals, and helping keep shared spaces clean and harmonious. Some projects may also involve building small structures such as a chicken coop, arbors, drying areas, or other simple farm improvements.

Because we only ask for around 3 hours of help per day, we are best suited to volunteers who are efficient, self-motivated, and happy to contribute with a good attitude.

We are especially interested in hearing from people with any of the following experience:

    Stick welding

Rope access or mountain climbing skills, especially people comfortable working while suspended with a harness

Natural building, especially someone who could help lead the construction of a clay, adobe, or superadobe chicken coop or similar structure

For volunteers with these more specialized skills, we may be able to offer a bit extra depending on the experience and the project.

No advanced experience is required for general farm help, but if you do have special skills, please mention them clearly in your message.

All volunteers are required to sign a volunteer waiver upon arrival.

  • Hébergement

    Hébergement

We offer simple but comfortable off-grid accommodation immersed in nature.

Volunteers may stay in a private cabin with a double bed, bathroom, and shower, which is ideal for solo travelers or couples looking for privacy and tranquility. There is also a shared main house with a communal kitchen, bathroom, and space for relaxing or sharing meals. Extra mattresses can be provided if needed.

We live fully off-grid, with limited electricity and no regular Wi-Fi, so this is a good match for people who are comfortable disconnecting from screens, slowing down, and spending time in nature. Life here is peaceful and beautiful, but it is also simple and rustic, so flexibility and a positive attitude are important.

Because we only require around 3 hours of volunteer help per day, we do not provide free meals as part of the exchange. Volunteers should be prepared to cover their own food.

That said, we do offer fresh farm-to-table meals 3 times a day for $10/per day total. Meals can be adapted to your diet when discussed in advance. This is a convenient option for volunteers who would like farm-fresh, home-cooked food during their stay.

Seasonally, bananas, plantains, coconuts, herbs, fruits, and vegetables from the farm may also be available to enjoy, although availability depends on the season and what the land is producing at the time.

The local grocery store is about 15 minutes away if you prefer to buy and prepare your own food.

In your free time, you can enjoy our private waterfall and swimming holes on the property, which are perfect for cooling off, relaxing, and reconnecting with nature. There are also nearby hiking trails leading to more waterfalls and beautiful places to explore.

For people interested in local adventures, we can help arrange rafting through a trusted local agency, as well as cacao ceremonies and other traditional experiences with local facilitators.

We can also help with transportation:

    SJO Airport pickup: $150
    Quepos pickup: $20
    Local bus stop pickup: $10

If you need transport, please arrange it with us in advance.

We ask everyone who comes here to be respectful, open-minded, and mindful of the shared space, the land, and the off-grid lifestyle. This is a peaceful jungle home, not a party hostel, and it is best suited to people who appreciate nature, simplicity, and a calm atmosphere.

To access the property, vehicles should have high ground clearance, especially if crossing the river by car. 4x4 or 4WD is recommended, but not always necessary — some larger trucks and vans with 2WD can manage the crossing without issues, depending on river conditions. Low-clearance vehicles (like small sedans) are only suitable during dry-season. If you're unsure, feel free to ask in advance — we can help arrange transportation or meet you nearby.
